Reloading for 30-06 - Barnes Bullets

I haven't experimented with Barnes bullets, but Nosler BT's, AB's, and PT's have been my go to in the 150-200 gr range. I've also had luck on paper with Bergers and Sierras. I concentrated on 180's but in the 150 range H4895 and IMR 4895 have been the powders that gave me the better results when leaning more towards accuracy. H4350 and IMR 4350 has been my 165 gr and 180 gr powders. RL22 for 200 gr and I have RL 26 waiting to be used with some 208 gr and above bullets. I also have Ramshot Hunter on the shelf for 180 gr class and for when I get my hands on some Berger 185's. But the go to bullet that my buddy takes elk with is a 165 Partition through his 308 Win, 300 yard range limit.

Have the answer for ya here....

All ready for you to take hunting....

I have a box of these hanging around and thought of trying it in my Rem 700 30-06 10 twist.
What powder do you use behind it?
IMR4166 and Varget are both vary good with that bullet. Also using this same bullet in my 300wsm at 3420fps with varget.

I found success in a mod 700 from the 80's with a max load of IMR 4064 and 165 TTSX, high 2900's with a 22" bbl and no pressure signs. accuracy was 5/8 with a 3 shot group.

A favorite load is Remington 150grain PSP CL-WC loaded with 56 grains IMR4350. The estimated velocity is 2830 FPS per Lyman data, QuickLoad says 2784 FPS & 2581 ft-lb. This is slightly below Remington's factory load of this bullet. which runs 2910 FPS This load works well in my Weatherby Vanguard.

I bought a big bag of these bullets, they are seconds and I haven't had an issue.

IMR 4350, IMR 4064 are my favorite powder for my 2 pre 64 Mod. 70's and IMR 3031 also works. Bullets that work well on game for me are the Speer 165 gr. SP for deer, Speer 180 Gr. Mag Tip for elk, Win. 180 gr. Silvertip for elk and Win. 150 gr. Silvertip for deer. Both IMR 4895 and IMR 4064 works great in my M-1 Garand.

130gr TTSX 3215fps very flat out to 400yds
Hell yeah, this is what I was wanting to do after I burn up my Barnes ttsx 150's that I can't get to shoot…..tired of messing with the darn rifle and those bullets!

Love the rifle but I'll go factory for awhile until I have time to mess with it or the want to mess with it.

Been having good success with Barnes bullets since the 90s. Pay attention to their suggested / tested COAL. It has been my experience in several rifles that the TSX and TTSX usually shoot the best seated to the top groove.

Good to know! Glad I seen this thread.

I've taken a bunch of elk with the 150 gr TTSX in my .30-06 Rem Mtn rifle. My load for years has been 52.0 gr Varget, CCI 200, seated .05 off the lands. I was getting just shy of 3,000 fps with it. You could also try Big Game powder if you have it around. I'd probably go with a magnum primer if you try BG.

Good luck!
