I just purchased a Savage 110 BA in 338 Lupua. I installed a Night Force 5.5X22X56 NP R1 zero stop scope attached with Night Force Unimount. I purchased dies, 100 Lupua brass and already have adequate Federal 215 primers. I looked all over for some Sierra 300 grain bullets without finding any. I did find two boxes of Barnes 285 grain TSX and purchased them. My problem is I can't find any load data for these bullets. I sent out an email earlier today to Barnes and hope they respond soon. Does anyone have a link to the appropriate data?? I have several slower burning powders already on hand including H1000, H4831, IMR 7828, Reloader 22. In the meanwhile, I found some 300 grain Sierras but they won't be here in time for firearm deer season. If anyone can help I'd certainly appreciate it.

I apologize for the error in the thread title. The bullet in question is 285 grain TSX

I'll respond to my own question; I went to Lupua's website and they actually had load data for the Barnes 338 caliber 285 grain TSX bullets. Unfortunately, they only showed two powders neither of which I have. I'll just make it easy on myself from here on out and Never buy a single Barnes bullet again. A man with 20+ pounds of slow burning powder certainly should easily find data to use with one of them.

I have the 285 gr TSX that I want to try. I'm just going to use H1000. Start at about 89 gr and work up. I shoot the 300 gr OTM out of mine right now but want to preserve them for longrange shots. I am going to have the TSX for under 600 yds.

It's a fine looking bullet for sure and I predict it would be devastating on game. However, oddly the 300 grain Sierra's are listed as having a higher velocity despite the groves designed to reduce pressure on the Barnes TSX. I thought hard about using the Hybrid 300 Berger and actually found some in stock but visited their website and saw that nose slump bulletin with cartridges of 338 Lupua or larger.

I've never shot any of their 338 bullets yet, but I would suggest the 280LRX--.667bc vs .585. I've been very impressed with the terminal performance of the 7mm LRX.

Thank you kindly, that will give me a starting point and through deer season until my Matchkings arrive!

I got home today to a pleasant surprise; a Cabelas box was on my porch containing the Sierra Matchkings I ordered. I was unable to confirm the Barnes Load data submitted and they have not responded to my e mails. I'll take that as poor customer service and write them off future purchases. Who wants two new boxes of Barnes 338 caliber 285 grain TSX??

I've been using the Berger 300 grain 33401 Hybrid bullets in our 30" Lapua with incredible results. Our velocity is an right on 2850 fps on my Pact chronographs. 2830 with the MagnitoSpeed last night in about 50 degree weather. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in the Savage. Our load is 93 grains of Retumbo. 3.900" fed 215 primer.

We are now testing with RL-33. So far 99 grains is 2865. Will keep going up till we see or feel something. We are trying to get to 2950.

I'm not a big fan of the Barnes bullets due to the narrow window of velocity they work at and their habit of extreme copper fouling.

I shot the 300 Berger for a year at 2950 including 10 shots at 1000 Yards and real good accuracy. I shot 10 shot groups in the 7 Inch range. Now mine is a Improved version so i can get a little more. My buddy was shooting his regular Lapua with 92 grains of H 1000. The Bergers were flatter to a 1000 yards. I now tested My 338 Lapua IMPROVED at 1000 with Reloader 33. Look farther down the page and look for 338 Lapua IMP with R33. Complete results with 300 Berger at 1000. Of all the powders i shot it was the best. I pushed it a lot farther and no slump. I am going to hunt with the Berger at 3000 feet because the group was better and that is the velocity where they start to slump. When people started to have trouble. They were usually over 3000. I'm not sure if that was a dated bulletin or not but it did mention the first generation was implicated in nose slump. I suspect Berger has long since corrected the problem; I hear nothing but good about them now.
