I just picked up a factory Rem. sporter barrel in 300 wsm. I have a Rem. short action with .308 bolt face. I assume it can be converted to a magnum? Also, do I need to find a magnum recoil lug? I'm sure my gunsmith can answer these questions, just thought I should find out ahead of time. BTW, I'm trying to make a light, semi-long range gun. Basically, the poor man's version of a rifle that most of you are familiar with!

Its always a very good idea to replace the factory lug with a quality match grade lug. I use Holland Comp recoil lugs but there are many out there that will work great.
Converting the 308 receiver to 300 WSM is certainly possible but you may run into some feeding issues. ITs best to use a center feed magazine box or DM system for best results.
Also, make sure the reamer you use has a short throat or you will have no chance of seating the bullets close to the lands and still have a repeater.
