17-18 Apr 2021 - Recap of the URSA April 2021 Match and the 5th Annual "URSA 3000 Yard Challenge" (2021) (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and minor comments from Oscar)

Shooters - on Saturday we had 7 shooters on the line and 11 rifles on the line. Mark Liu, last year's 3K winner, used a 6mm Dasher, a .300 PRC, and a .375 CheyTac. White Mamba used a .338 Lapua Ackley Improved and a .510 DTC, and yours truly used a .375 CheyTac and a .50 BMG. [We encourage our shooters to bring all the guns and ammo they want to shoot!!! Unlike other venues with tons of restrictions.]

We ran two matches Saturday morning with Lynn winning Match 1 on a shoot-off with Calguns' regular RickyRacer87.

In Match 2, RickyRacer87 won it outright with 4 hits in 10 shots at 2054 yards. Mark Liu, who qualified for the 3K on his final qualifying shot for this match (in heavy winds) was Runner-Up. Nice shooting in bad conditions for all who attended.

BTW, first-time shooter Modolistic got 2 hits during each match, so he is an up-and-coming competitor. Congrats!!!

Lynn was shooting Cutting Edge 377 gr MTACs out of his Billy Goat Machine/BMG-built .375 CheyTac with Stiller TAC 408 (1.600) action, K&P 36" barrel, McMillan HBR, barrel-blocked stock, and March 5-42x56 (wide angle) scope with Barrett rings and a 60 MOA Pic rail.

RickyRacer was shooting 300 gr Hornady A-TIPs out of a Billy Goat Machine/BGM-built .338 LM AI (Ackley Improved) with BGM "OVIS" (Defiance Deviant Tactical) action, Bartlein 31.5" barrel, Manners T5A stock, Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 SFP scope, and ERATAC 0-70 MOA adjustable base/rings.

Mark was shooting 361 gr Warner Flat Lines out of a Desert Tech HTI with 37.5" Lilja barrel, and Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 (F1) scope. [Mark's stats will be posted shortly, waiting on some details and clarifications.]

For Sunday's URSA 3000 Yard Challenge, we had 7 shooters and 7 guns on the line. [Everyone shot in good conditions. With only 3 practice shots, immediately followed by 10 record rounds, competition moves along really fast.] Calguns' regular Hognuts gave me a load for my .375 CheyTac and I managed to get 4 hits at 2502 yards to take the win. Billy Goat Machine's most excellent gunsmith (Skeeter) took Runner-Up with 3 hits. Congrats to BGM on the (builder) sweep!!!

Lynn was shooting the same .375 CT as on Saturday.

Skeeter was shooting 300 gr Berger Elite Hunters out of a Billy Goat Machine/BGM-built .338 LM IMP with BAT HR action, Bartlein 30" barrel, Manners TF1A stock, Premier 5-25x50 scope, 20 MOA BAT Pic rail, and ERATAC 0-70 MOA adjustable base/rings.

After the match we held a fun shoot because everyone still had ammo. RickyRacer87 took out his can opener and opened up a can of whoop***** on all of us with 6 hits in 10 shots at 2502 yards shooting a Billy Goat Machine .338 Lapua Ackley Improved and 300 grain A-Tip bullets. Way to go RickyRacer87!!! [Pics and video link to be posted in the Gallery.]

After that was over, those shooters that still had ammo decided to give 3713 yards a try and the wheels fell off. Not a single hit was made – at that distance the target looks like a postage stamp at 40X.

A huge thank you to ELR-Researcher (Oscar) for providing event t-shirts for those shooting the 3K match. [My pleasure! The order is in (4/20), expect to ship to the shooters within a couple weeks.] [And back at you, Lynn. Thank you for corralling the shooters and making it happen. Great job!]

Thank you to all attending the matches, hope to see you again next year (for the 6th Annual "URSA 3000 Yard Challenge")…back in SoCal (rotating between venues going forward).
