rebarreling a 308 smle

I have a question here,I have a 308 smle that I put a fiberglass stock on Sportarized it a little,Well the barrel is shot out.What I was wondering was can I put a 22-250 barrel on it,It has a 98 mauser action I was told,I am not going to attempt this myself there are a coulpe reputable gunsmiths around here I will get them to do the work.If this can be done what all will I need and Would it just be cheaper to go and buy a new 22-250.

SMLE stands for Short Magazine Lee Enfield. These are not Mauser actions.

The rifle isn't worth the price of a new barrel and would never be made to shoot to the full potential of the 22-250 cartidge. You are much better off spending money on a nice used rifle from one of the major brands.
