What is the preferred way to shoot at the range. Tripods with back bag, Front adjustable rest with rear bag, lead sled, one big bag, front bag and rear bag, other? Usually use adjustable front rest and rear bag. Tried bull bag but didn't feel good, and with rear bag and front bag can't seem to get front of rifle high enough with front bag. Any input appreciated.

I don't find all front rests, bipods, or tripods to be created equal. I swap back and forth depending on what's available.

if for load development, the most repeatable. good solid heavy front rest, and a well fitting rear bag. investing in these TOOLS is just part of the cost of shooting.
for "shooter" evaluation how you shoot away from the range

My rifles are strictly for hunting and I practice all the time for that long range shot. I do almost all my range shooting prone with bipod and rear bag, similar to hunting. This really builds my confidence and I get lots of practice getting on target. Even during load testing with Labradar I am prone.

My good solid front rest is about 60 lbs. Some days my back just says "oh hell no I'm not packing this from truck to bench".

Which reminds me all benches don't aid in shooting for group. Starts from the ground up.

i shoot on my own property, my range is carved out of the woods on the side of a hill bordering a creek. it's not flat, so i shoot off my pack with a rear bag i made from a pair of socks and some rice. i like to get as flat and close to the ground as i can, especially when zeroing and this works and is about as solid as i can get it without a sled (which i couldnt use anyhow since it's not flat)

For load development, I like a heavy, adjustable front rest and rear bag. Many ranges require that shooting take place from the benches only. If allowed, for practice, I will use the set-up expected in the field or competition course. For LR hunting, 90% of my set-ups are either prone with a bipod/rear bag, or sitting with a backpack, tripod, or shooting sticks.

Tried bull bag but didn't feel good,
when I'm hunting my bean field from my elevated blind I find the Bull bag is the most versatile. Very fast to set up a shot. It is awkward at first but practice is immensely important. I do load development and practice on it. It really builds good habits to use one! If you can produce good results from a Bull bag your other ways of shooting will improve.

Im convinced Some types of rests encourage bad habbits that are hard to break....lead sleads are my pet peeve. I cringe when I see guys using them.

On just about any set-up except a free-recoil bench position, I find the most important aspect in the use of shooting supports is trying to keep the shoulders as square as possible(90 degrees to the barrel).

If your developing a load or just trying shoot small groups use a good quality front rest and rabbit ear rear bag or if you are practicing for hunting use what you would use one your hunt
