I considering have Darrell Holland build a 280 rem - I can use his actions, but it is quite a bit cheaper to use a rem 700 action.

So my question is whether a 7mm mag action is essentially the same as a 280? Or are there other calibers that would work for building a 280 off of a 700 action?

Thx in advance.

"So my question is whether a 7mm mag action is essentially the same as a 280? "

Short answer: No, the 7 mag action uses a mag bolt face. The bottom of the action is also different... If you want a 280 just use a 30-06 / 270 action.

You could build a 7mm SAUM from a 7mm mag action. Very similar to a 280 AI + in power.
I built one and I like it a lot.

Many thanks...Darrell Holland sent an email saying the same thing.

I had a brain fart and got bullet diameter confused with bolt diameter...makes since that 270 and -06 would work as the 270 and 280 were offspring of the -06 case.

Thx

Darrel does great work.

If you build a 700, it's just one of 50,000,000 Rem 700's.

For a little more, you can have a true custom that's one of a few.

It will hold value better/longer and will serve you well for a lifetime.

Mine has a #3 24.5" Broughton barrel, McMillan Remington Sporter stock, Pierce picatinny rail, PTG BDL BM and round bolt knob, Farrell 30mm low rings holding a NF 2.5-10x32mm scope.
