Powder Valley Weirdness

They probably have a box full of the "Haz Mat" labels that they paid for already, and the shipping labels too. I doubt they are out of any shipping costs. With the amount of sales they do, and the amount of "Haz Mat" shipping (probably everything they sell), they don't pay the fee that you or I would. Otherwise, who knows what they are thinking? Dummass business move if you ask me.

He still can't legally ship it to them, unless he's a known hazmat shipper.

I just got a call back from Powder Valley. They told me they figured out how in their system how to charge the difference between the 1lb and 8lb container and I gave them full bill on it. Still doesn't make complete sense to me that they couldn't give at least a little discount since I didn't plan for this, but at the end of the day the issue was resolved! Thanks guys for your input and I'm glad they were able to get it figured out.

I would really be interested to know what they would do with the returned powder. There are so many crazy and dangerous people out there that they really couldn't know if the powder was tampered with. The risk of reselling powder from an unknown source is way too high.

A different powder issue:
A LGS in PA that I often bought powder from started selling powder in mislabeled powder containers and some powder was being sold in Chinese soup containers. When I asked about the origin of the powder, they told me that they get 8lb containers when 1lb containers are not available, and they break it down and put it in whatever they got. They slap a piece of paper on the front with the powder name.

I would never buy one of those containers. I don't suspect foul play but if one of their employees made an innocent mistake, the buyer would pay the consequences. I want my powder sealed in the original container and received from a reliable source.

BTW - my comments are NOT directed at the OP who ended up with the 8lb jug with a return request. They are just my thoughts on the topic.

Would you purchase open jug of powder from another LRH member?

Character is knowing the right thing to do, and integrity is doing it when no one is looking. You sir, have both. Good on ya. We need more of that in this country. I appreciate PV and how much they've enabled me to keep my shelves stocked. And mistakes do happen. That said, hopefully they will learn to accept sensible solutions more quickly going forward. You just earned a lot of respect!

I don't purchase open containers because there is no reason to. Powder has become much more available than it's been for some time. While I waited to acquire hard-to-get powders (H1000 - Varget) I just adapted to using powders that were available.

Years ago - I would by single pound cans, as needed. Now, with supplies still being spotty, I buy 8lb jugs that last a long time.

Would you buy a pound of powder, sitting on the shelf of your LGS, that was in a soup container and had a handwritten identifier on it?

FYI

The Retailer violated NFPA requirements by repackaging this powder which would have violated his insurance if something had happened. If you were to purchase this in non DOT approved containers and something were to happen related to the powder in transport of in your home you would be in a similar situation.

Stupid move.
