I bought some 2400 powder at a gun show. It's still got a Hercules label on the can (4 Lb. Container) but was unopened. Loaded up some .357 loads and velocity is about 200 FPS slower than the newer Alliant 2400 that was on my shelf.
The color of the powder is normal, and it smells OK. I have no idea how this container of powder has been stored. I have a lot of powder on my shelves that is from the 70's and still works fine.
So my question is, has anybody that uses 2400 noticed that the Alliant has higher energy than the old Hercules? I can probably add a little and match the velocity of the Alliant, there are no pressure signs.
