My dad use to put the ranch dogs in a gunny sack up to their neck and hang the sack from the porch beam then put a stick through their mouth all the way back behind the teeth and tie a rope around one end of the stick then around the dogs neck and then back to the other end of the stick. This immobilized the dog and held their mouth open to pull the quills out of the mouth throat and tongue. It was a bloody messy task.

Yes. Skunks porkies badgers raccoons in the water they were always game and never learned. There demise was fighting a rabid bobcat. They had not been vaccinated and had to be quarantined and.put down.
