Pet .30-06 loads, anyone?

I am new to reloading and would love to hear some of your favorie loads. Long range loads, short range loads, target, hunting, any and all.

That's my deer load out to 400 yards and is as far as my old eyes will let me shoot nowadays. All three 30-06 rifles I have are good for a lot further than that though if it wasn't for my eyes.

have no idea of bc or fps, but I have been loading this for many years, a great medium game hunting round that puts the smack on them:

130gr. Hornady SP
51.5gr IMR 3031
Winchester Large rifle primer

Have shot everything from coyotes and prairie dogs to elk with immediate results.....

Here's a really good place to start:

30/06 ocw load
IMR 4350 57.5 gr.
165 gr. bullet
winchester brass
-.4% remington brass

If a 30Gov't06 doesn't shoot this load, it shouldn't shoot anything...at least in my experience with around 20 of 'em over the years.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. One area I am particularly curious about is powder. Could some of you veteran handloaders educate me a little on what makes a good powder for '06 loads?

IMR4350, RL17, IMR4831, H4831, RL19, RL22

IMO RL17 will become THE powder for the 30-06 within a few years when more and more use it

150gr / imr 4064@ 52 grs. 2990 fps
165/168 / H4350 57.5 grs. 2840 fps
185 VLD / H4350 57.0 grs 2820 fps
208 amax/ Ramshot Hunter @ 58grs over max 2710fps


I have tested the 185's at 320 yards and getting 1" groups. Has also been very good out to 1K.

My best all around anything goes load is fully prepped Winchester brass, 59.5grns H4350, CCI BR2, 168 amax .010" off the lands, regularly gives me a 4-5fps ES with avg velocity of 2938fps, has shot a .217" 5 shot group at 100yrds from a sub moa vanguard with nothing but a trigger adjustment.
