Opinions on my long range rifle

Just wanted to get some constructive opinions on my setup:

Savage model 10FP with stock heavy 22" fluted barrel
HS Precision Pro series 2000 stock
Muscle brake muzzle brake
Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 scope
UTG heavy quick detach rings
EGW scope base
Dark Eagle 10 round magazine

I want some thats good for game up to 600yds and good for paper at 800-1000yds. What do you think?

What caliber is it?

Since most (?) 10FPs are 308 that might be an assumption, but since I own a 110FP in 25-06 I know that other options are available.

I left out the most important part, It's in 308.

For targets, 308 benefits from every bit of velocity it can get when it comes to longrange. As such, you would benefit from a longer barrel...26" or 28" would be better than 22".

The 22" is the factory barrel so I want to see how it does before I go longer. I saw the UTG's at a local guns show and they felt really stout and for the price I figured I'd give them a try.

See how it goes before you go longer? what does that mean? it's quite easy to determine that it will produce very low velocities in a cartridge where velocity means everything for longrange shooting.

Allout: I've owned that exact gun and pretty much the same setup with a badger 20moa base and even the viper hs. Work up some 155 scenars to about 3000fps and you can get there every time. Trust me. That load will knock a white tail on his *** at 600 and a properly place shot will stone cold him at 900. gun)

I understand that a shorter barrel equates to lower velocities but also is easier for manueverability and I don't feel the velocity loss can out way that extra manueverability. Until I run some velocity tests and see what this barrel will produce velocity wise I'll make the trade off for now.

I have no particular opinion on the UTG's really. It just sounded from your initial description that the basis for your decision was driven by economic factors. So I offered you an alternative, that I have used and do use on all my rifles...Burris Signature Rings and bases.
