I have a New Kimber montana that I love everything about but the barrel contour. I wish it was a little thicker and was wondering if anyone has re barreled a Montana to a larger contour, and if they have, did they open up the channel on the existing stock, or go with another stock all together. Thanks

I've done what you describe with a laminated wood stock. I used masking tape to mark the cut, then a dremel with coarse sanding drum to remove most of the material. To finish it up I used an appropriately sized dowel or deep socket wrapped with sand paper. Once the channel was the right size I put a couple coats of polyurethane on the sanded areas. It took some time and patience but wasn't altogether too difficult.
