Where is the easiest plact to hunt Elk as in draw/buy a tag. Id be happy with a fat Cow at this point. Dosent have to be a big wall hanger Bull. Basically a meat hunt out of a pickup would be fine to start with haha. Im not picky. I have shot one before (canned hunt and it was lame). Getting tired of sitting in a blind watching a stupid deer feeder every morning and night in West Texas for Schnauzer size deer and Javelinas

There are still some decent LO/UW tags for sale in some good units in NM. We bought a muzzle hunt for my wife last year because she didn't draw and she killed on the 3rd day. Nice fat cow elk in unit 15. Paid $600 for that UW tag.

That's what I'm taking about. All I've seen so far are $2,500 and up for cows. Bulls $7,500 up to 10G!

My son calls about 100 land owners every year we don't draw. That is the only way for find decent deals on tags. Usually 13, 16E, and 17 will have them for a decent price.
In good units $10k is cheap.

The easiest hunting would be a West Texas Big Bend area hunt. There are lots of herds out there that are free roaming. Texas doesn't have a season on them. There a small hand full of outfitters out there that hunt them because of the very large ranches and not many of them. They kill some 360"+ bulls out there in the Mountains of Big Bend. Kinda over looked place to hunt them. Kinda pricey too. Last I checked they were $12,000+(OUCH!) on their hunts.

10k can buy a lot of beef, chicken and pork and a fridge to pack it all i
That's where i'm at….I'd buy a 1/4 cow,1/2 hog and shoot some PRS, if I were limited to $5k and higher hunts.

Honestly, there is a lot of value in driving out to your ideal spot, spending a week talking to locals, hunters and landowner. Make some connections and you will be able to setup a decent hunt for future seasons. I know that is a ridiculous plan, but boots on the ground is the best way to see $100/day-$500/day elk hunting signs. Folks who have land and don't want a guide, struggle to get the right level of marketing.

Ive seen ads in local papers, signs on the road, talk to the guys at the local sporting good, talk to landowners at the local breakfast place.

Try to get on to scout without a license in year 1….optics only. Figure a place out.

Montana has lots of block management. Look into that.

Hey for $12.000 you can get your wife new boobs!!! Maybe some Botox. Or a little mommy tuck……….

Dang my wife would kill me and mount me on the wall If I spent 10K on a hunt...
That's a drop in the bucket if you truly want to play on the world class stage, a single drop. Guy just paid $225'000 for a PA BULL tag....and he drilled a monster...one man's roof is someone else's floor as they say !!

Try looking for a landowner tag in northeast Utah. Three of my friends did this cow elk hunt for a very decent price. Check the internet.
