I didn't know they made them.

I was just looking at those! LOL

The bearing surface is probably similar to the Sierra 175 TGK. It's pretty long! This is a 145 TGK, 170gr Berger, and 175 TGK to give you an idea.

Muddy.....all but he 270WCF with the 160 can push 3000 and the 27 Nosler has the 160-165 so yeah the 170 would do it with the Weatherby and 270 short mag !

at mid range? the 150's will do it. Why buy a rifle with a 8 twist and the 170 when you can have a 10 twist and use 130 through 150 ? I see no advantage.

My. 270 AI with 1:8" 30" Lilja was built specifically to propel the 165/175 Matrix, 170 Berger but has no problem shooting the 150 NBTs.

Because I can shoot 156HH and 170EOL that extends my range and are significantly better than lighter weight bullets. Whatever the 1:10 can do the 1:8 will do it better so why not take advantage of increasing a cartridge's capability simply by changing twist? No different argument with 300WM that are 1:8, 1:9 versus 1:10. Opens up options that are not available to slower twist rifles.

ye old saga of the 270WCF at extended ranges.... dropped a bull elk with a nose dive at 300 yards with a 150 grain Winchester silver tip. Went completely through quartering away and destroyed it's front shoulder, can we agree it would do just as well farther out? And since then some improvements(06 to 270 O'Connor liked them both) ... but no major improvements. That's why it called just improved, Johnny made an improvement this marking period, from a D to a C but no major improvement, he could do a lot better !

now you're stepping up to a MAJOR improvement, which I knew you would !! 🤣 A heavier bullet is fine to a point, but then looses velocity and energy unless you get a magnum. Maybe if you get a rubber tree plant it may help. Guess High hopes doesn't help if an ant tries to move that plant !

I ordered a few hundred direct from nosler yesterday to run in my 270 ss's. As York showed they seem very close to the 175 sierra with massive bearing surface. I ran the 175 sierra last fall in my 19" barreled 8 twist 270ss at 2750. The sierra shot great and performed awesome on my cow elk at 740 yards so I expect these will do similar. I have a second 270ss in the works with a 7.5 twist 24" proof so I'll pick up a bit more speed.
I think the "lack" of design on these new heavy 270 bullets was to be the first to get in on the 6.8 western train. It appears the companies just took their existing 150 grain bullet design/profile and just added bearing surface to use existing tooling.
