Has anyone ever experienced this. Opened an old box that has been sitting in the garage for 6 years or so. Lots of the tips have corroded.

sure did
same exact thing with a box of 180gr 8mm Ballistic Tip and a box of 300 gr 375 cal, both boxes were unopened, 375 was old stock in the older side flap boxes, sitting in the back of middle shelf about eye level, heated garage reloading room, no moisture

along with bullet shanks turning a dark color

Yes exactly the same with 225g 338 cal Accubonds that I had loaded for one of my 338WM's and had stored in my boat.
Contacted Nosler and they informed me that the oils/waxes from a particular polish they were using was discolouring the jackets and melting the tips over time…..several batches early on were affected but they changed the polish and all is good again. I also had several boxes from the same time frame with different calibre bullets mixed in with the correct bullets. Had quite a few 140g Accubond 6.5 boxes with 33 cal 225g Accubonds in there and a few boxes of 25 cal 110g bullets with 7mm 160g Accubonds, I never even owned a 7mm back then and gave them to a buddy with a 7RM (YUCK) Gayest cartridge ever invented!!!!!

Cheers.

I've found that condition on two occasions with Nosler bullets. Both times I called Nosler and they weren't terribly surprised. They asked for lot numbers and promptly replaced the bullets. On one occasion they didn't have any of the same bullets in inventory and offered me any other bullet to replace them. They did not want the original bullets in return.

I shot the original bullets to see how they flew, including the bullets that had tips that were missing. Believe it or not, ALL the bullets flew fine and grouped well on paper. IIRC I was shooting at the 200yd line.

I will contact them today to see if they will replace these corroded boxes. Thanks for the responses. I was trying to figure out what I could have done to make this happen. Good to hear it wasn't something I did.

Never and I have probably 4K unopened on the shelf from the 90's in boxes of 100. Also have large amount of AB's Always stored no humidity and temp controlled room. Looks like I'll open them.
YES I BOUGHT SOME ABs OFF HERE (160AB) and was told some had broken tips. No corrosion More were missing then expected and based on the pre buy conversations the shipping caused more. The tips were just snapped off almost even with the jacket.

I think I would open some up and check.
These tips deteriorated. Didn't just snap.

As this conversation is ongoing, I'm sitting here miking a handful of 7mm bullets trying to make a decision on which bullet will offer the most blood out of the dinky 'lil 7mm-08 case, which one will intrude least into powder space and offer most velocity for weight & trying to get the heaviest ....
And contemplating on doing a 7mm-08 AI (case on left) but then started daydreaming about a mo bettah, more guts 28-08 Improved .. bahahahahaha !

Miked the 150 gr Nosler ABLR and it was perfect ! Gonna have to mess with that one for sure .... Next up was the 160 gr Nosler Accubond, couple years old ... but an unopened box ....

Opened the box and gahhhhh ! Bullets are discolored with an ugly, reddish, dark bluish color, I can't shoot pretty, white billy goats with ugly bullets ! no way !

and they're all like that, one side on every bullet is stained... "dam it all" said the beaver !

Al least those just look tarnished and the tip hasn't rotted completely out of the bullet...🤷‍♂️

Tips look secure but I didn't want to mess with them by pushing on them too much, I'll see if an acetone rinse will clean them up ...

But the trust level is gone for this box, I'll shoot em up, but not gonna take them hunting, that's for dang sure

Yep, I have multiple boxes just like that in cals from 25, 26, 27, 30, 33 & 37. All are Accubonds too.
Not a single box of Partitions I have opened have had those marks or any boxes of ABLR.
The discoloured one's I have have had no problems with accuracy and have taken game, so the discolouration is no big deal.

Cheers.

I think I'd use some water and vinegar or straight vinegar with a water neutralizing bath. Maybe add baking soda to the water for rinse. You could also run them in a tumbler with cob.
