North/south stand orientation

I was talking with a hunter the other day and he explained that he set a stand North and another south of his feeder, depending on the wind direction any given day would determine which he hunts. My question is why not just set one east or west?

Possibly the geography of where he's hunting so a prevailing north or south wind not so much east west
