Started working with Norma 217 in my 264 win mag. There isn't a wealth of data out there utilizing this powder so I thought I'd share a bit of what I've found so far.
Bullet- Hornady 140 SST
Temp- 72• wind 220@12 baro 30.05" altitude 1370
Cases- Nosler (210g empty) sorted and prepared
Primer- Winchester large rifle magnum
THIS IS NOT PROOFED DATA, PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I started at 62.0g which yielded 2923fps over the magnetospeed for a three shot group. This represents Norma MRP-2 data using a Hornady 140g SP. I increased the charge ONE GRAIN at a time and shot groups over the magnetospeed to 64.0g (3,044 fps). From 64.0g on I worked up .2g to 69.4g (3,343 fps, one shot, heavy bolt first half of the lift, normal extraction. IN MY RIFLE) best groups were at 68.0g (3,155 fps)
It behaved similar to Retumbo, but slower. In my rifle 69.0g 217 was 3190 fps with no sign of pressure, grouping wasn't stellar. 69.2g went 3,201 fps with smooth bolt lift and extraction and primer still showing radius, group was 1-1/4" total at 100 yards.
I'll be working with 140g Berger hybrids as soon as the guy in the brown truck drops them off.
