Hello all,
I have finally decided to buy some reloading equipment and start loading for my 270WSM and 22-250. I'm looking for suggestions on:
1) What equipment is necessary, and what to buy.
2) What manuals / books are necessary, and what to buy.
3) Any suggestions for pet loads for the 270WSM. What powders, primers, bullets. (I want to use the Accubonds, but am open to suggestions. Whitetail and target shooting)
NOTE: I would rather spend the $$$ now than have to buy something twice, so quality equipment is a must. I should also note that I live in VT; so non-temp sensitive powders would help (shooting in temps from 0-90 F).

Thanks in advance,
Cobber

dear cobber

for what it's worth, here's my two pence worth....

you don't want to buy stuff twice so buy good stuff to begin with, you'll only regret it if you don't.

rockchucker or redding big boss press

redding dies (either comp or s-type) as long as they are in-line seaters

K&M case prep tools, flash hole and primer pocket uniformer

wilson trimmer

rcbs, sinclair or hornady priming tool

rcbs 10-10 scales

mitutoyo digital vernier caliper

stoneypoint bullet comparator and headspace comparator

powder thrower (i use a lee cause it's cheap and i throw charges short and trickle to weight on the scales)

rcbs powder trickler

a vibratory tumbler of some description (they all do the same thing) i use a frankford arsenal one

sierra or speer manuals are quite good. hodgdon one is also good and their extreme powders are temp in-sensitive and very good.

i have probably forgotten a lot....

buy what you can afford. it can get as expensive and as involved as you want. i spend more time loading and experimenting now than i do shooting, which is not why i started loading.

speak to someone near you who has been at it a while and knows what they're doing. safety first!

derek

Find a book on the basics of reloading. There are a few of them out there. Start slow and with the basics and than add steps to improve your loads. We all do things a little different and you need to decide which extra steps are worth the time.

Thanks for the reply's guys.
Unfortunately I don't have anyone I know that reloads. Or shoots long range with a mathematical / scientific approach. I'll read what I need, and figure it out from there (hopefully not bugging people here too much

). I have learned a lot reading posts here and other sites. A friend and I have been shooting from 300-700 yards lately. Its been a humbling experience at 700 to say the least with good and bad days of course.
Thanks again

i personally have found rcbs products to be top notch for a reasonable price. if you aren't interested in high volume loading the rock chucker is sturdy, and affordable as they get, and everything has a lifetime warranty which i have only had to use once (it was my fault anyway).

I actually just purchased the RCBS Master Reloading Kit. I was thinking about getting the competition Redding Bullet Seating Dies and Competition Neck Bushing (Sizing) Dies. (Not sure if thats all worded correctly -> new to the game). I'm not sure what I need though? Any suggestions.
Owe yeah: for my 270 WSM.
