Hey Guys, I am getting a Remington 700 stainless chambered in 30-06 ready for the spring bear hunt. Shot a great group using the Sierra 165 BTHP and 59 grains of Superformance powder. Velocity averaged 2840 fps.
What have you other guys used that works well in this cartridge?
Thanks, Kirk

The reloading forum (one above this) would be a better place I think. But for my 30-06 I use two loads both with IMR4350. 165gr sierra btsp for plinking and 168gr ttsx for hunting, both in the 2800fps range. IIRC I'm thinking 58gr on the sierras and 56.5gr on the barnes, but as always start low and work up to your gun.

52.0 grns IMR 4350 200gr. Gameking 3.34 coal shoots really tight in my 06 24in. barrel 2600fps. That ought to bust a bear..

54.0 Reloder 17, 180 Nosler ballistic tip. Start at 52.0g and work up for best accuracy. Strong bear medicine.

Cat- i use varget 50.5 grains and a 168 grain ballistic tip ( or a 167 scenar or 165 grain partition or 165 btsp or the 165 bthp you are shooting or a 168 berger ) . 210M , lapua brass. 030 off the lands. on 24hourcampfire there are some like 270 replies. 30-06 is a popular and effective round.

I use 165gr Sierra Game Kings in my Browning A bolt 2, Reloader17 and IMR 4350 powder,Winchester case and CCI BR2 primers. R17 produces 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards and IMR 4350 opens up to 3/8 inch groups. Both powders and bullet combo work well in the 30/06 and are enough for any black bear.

I like one shot kills where possible and prefer to do all my hunting before I shoot. Elmer Keith

I've got a 26" .30-06 AI that pushes Berger 185 VLD's over 2,900 fps with IMR 7828 SSC... I was building it for a 1K range rifle just for plinking since I had all the parts available to build it for next to dirt, and barrel life would be very good. I had a spare 26" Remington .308 Win varmint barrel sitting in the rack that had never been shot. Bought a used ADL .270 for $350, bought a bottom metal assembly for $75 on ebay, and built the whole semi-custom rifle for $550-600 (including smith work), because I had all the other parts sitting around left over from other builds. :D

It's fun to shoot, and even though it has a 26" heavy barrel, it is VERY managable in weight with the B&C Medalist stock...So I'll most likely make it a hunting rifle instead.
