Hello all,

I am currently deployed, but my home base is Ft. Campbell KY. I really enjoy reading the articles and forum posts in my limited free time.

I love everything outdoors, but really enjoy shooting and hunting. I enjoying the AR platform, and am currently looking for a varmint AR upper, either piece by piece or buying one complete. I am also researching an accurate 10-22 and a .416 bolt action.

I really enjoy this site, keep up the good work.

I built my self a 223 AI and really like it. (I can shoot standard 223 while fire forming and
the accuracy is great).

The AI boost the 223 buy about 150 ft/sec.

You can buy 223 Lapua brass and it will last almost forever.

What 416 are you thinking about ?

Welcome to the form, as to the .416 i think ( may be wrong) Barrett has a new rifle in .416 with ballistics better than a .50 something to think about.

Yes , Barrett has a 416 based on a shortened 50 BMG . But the cost of the rifle and ammo
makes the 50 BMG still the best deal and it is not that much better at distance. You gain very
little.

The new designer cartridges are in vogue right now but the old "Ma Deuce" is hard to beat,
especially being 93 years old.

Some say that the 50 BMG is just a scaled up 30/06. John Browning certainly knew what he
was doing.

It is always good to hear from our service people and we will try to keep the connection

223 ackley improved. basically its a 223 with its shoulder blown to probablly 40degrees and a little less taper depending on how you spec out your reamer. helps add a little case capacity.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing. My wife's stepson, Nick (we have his two younger brothers living here in Virginia) from her first marriage is from Louisville and stationed at Ft. Campbell -- he's a combat engineer who just got back from being deployed to Afganistan.
