New chambering for 28 Nosler

I'm shooing from the hip here, what about the 33 Nosler. I have an itch for a 338 but want something bigger than a 338 Winchester Mag and not a 338 Lapua or Rum. I think it would work with your magazine length also but not sure.
Good luck,
Jason

Another great suggestion. Thanks Jason.

For serious LR work, 338 is where it starts, now, your LR might be different to mine.
I have 6.5, 7mm, 30, 33 & 37 cal for LR to 1000metres, YMMV.
If you plan on longer than 1000, you can take a 7mm, but a 338 is going to shoot flatter and have way more energy (depending on cartridge choice).
Anything based on the RUM is going to get you there, might be an option for you, or stick with the Nosler case…

Cheers.

After having some issues with my 28 Nosler, my gunsmith confirmed the barrel is shot.

I have other 7mm rifles and am considering a 30 or 338 chambering this time. I will be loading for whatever I decide.

Curious what options you all might suggest?
You could go with the 33 nosler i shoot 235 hammers in mine and it's a 5/8 go. At 200 yds. Using n 560 powder running 2910 FPS

Our range currently goes to 1350 yards (little over 1200 meters). Hunting shots on same property out to 1000 yards. If I can get permission for the guy that owns the farm next door, I'm hoping to get to 1760 yards (1 mile).
Most of the long range practice began from hunting elk and realizing an "average shot" was 4-5x longer than any shot we'd taken in prior. It then soon became either a passion and an addiction (depending on if you ask my shooting buddy or my wife), followed by better rifles, reloading equipment, and now the "necessity" for chamberings that can accomplish any task.

The goal for this rifle in particular is long range energy in a hunting weight rifle (that doesn't knock me off the mountain when I shoot it). Depending on the barrel and length (another topic I'd appreciate feedback on), this rifle will end up in the 10-12 lb range.

I would think the 10-12lb range is as low as you would want to go with an Ultra Magnum. A good brake will mitigate that recoil to make it comfortable to shoot for long range target practice.

I have been shooting suppressed on most of my current rifles, but was thinking this one would probably need to be braked. I've been using mainly Proof CF barrels but, as you said, am thinking a little heavier barrel might be more appropriate on this.

I was having the same dilemma last year trying to pick a cartridge. I decided on a 338 Rum. I'm not a true long range hunter, but like to shoot 5-700 yds. Currently it's shooting the Apex Afterburner 200 gr at 3200 FPS. I'm about to order the 210 HHT to try as well. R26 is the powder day m using and gets me good velocity out of the 23" barrel. With the SRS brake recoil is not an issue.

At 10 lbs it's a nice rifle to carry and with the short barrel it handles/shoulders nice.

Looks great. 10 lbs is definitely a handy weight and I'm glad to hear the SRS tames the recoil. I cannot tell from the pic... did you go 5 port?

I run my REM 700 SPS Stainless in 300RUM, 3-18x50 scope, without a brake using 210g ABLR. Scope is too large for the rifle, but it gives me no trouble in the recoil department.
I don't run brakes normally, but both my 338-416 Rigby Improved & 375-416 Rigby Improved run brakes, never ran one on my 338WM or 338 Edge either.
Only reason to run a brake for me is to curb muzzle rise.

Cheers.

Something tells me you'd win in the "trade shoulder punches" contest!
