Here's my .260Rem, I tore apart my 6BR put a 28" L.W. .260 barrel on it Replaced the Warne 0MOA rail with a EGW 20 MOA and replaced the Sightron SIIBS 6.5-20x50SF with a SIII 8-32x56LRD. It's shot near or under half MOA out to 400yds so far with 140gr A-Maxs.

What made you decide to go with the 260 over the 6 BR. Just curious, thinking about a F class build. Wanted an opinion or comment. Thanks.

I really like the scope, dot and all.The size of the dot works for my needs just fine. I'd highly recommend these scopes. Crystal clear, tracks well, looks pretty bad *** too!

I like the .260 over the 6BR, brass is cheaper and easier to find, The powder I use is easier to find along with large rifle primers around here. My 6BR was a 1-14" Twist 75gr bullets were max for the twist and that did'nt fit my needs anymore either. I'm shooting half MOA out to 400yds so far with 140gr A-maxs best so far was a 3 shot group at .739", like it so much gonna have Kevin get me a Broughton coming!

pa,
Nice looking stick man! What kind of velocity are you getting with the 140's out of that 28" tube? Have you tried lighter bullets? I have a factory .260 Mtn rifle, so right now I'm stuck with a 22" tube.
I like the looks of the EGW base also. Thinking about getting one for my Savage in .300WM. JohnnyK.

What twist is your barrell? I have had a 260 on order for 21 months now with a 1 in 8 twist in a 24" Lilja barrell. Been wondering if I should have gotten a 1 in 8.5 twist. Anxious to get it and get it ready for Oct 1 hunt.

I'm hoping for around 2800fps but did'nt Chrono it yet, probaly will get it Chrono out this weekend. I broke it in with 120gr A-Maxs they shot really good over H4350. I think the EGW base would work but will be replacing it with a 15 MOA Steel Farrel or a Steel TPS 20MOA soon, it's kinda cheesy. And I am thinking of replacing the rings with Farrels or TPS's to. Oh and barrel is a 1-8" twist.

its a lil off subject but i have a .338 savage is their any way i can make it take a .338 lapua round and fire it without it blowing up and if their is a list of parts and some sites to get them

If you want a lazer tact driver, try the Horn. 129 SST. They shoot 3/8 groups out of my 260. Mine is a rebarreled Mod. 70

I would be very interested in fps. I am tossing around the idea of a 6.5X55 Swede. I can pick one up through Howa. Have you ever shot or tried a the Swede? Would you consider building a .260 or 6.5X55 on a Mod. 7 action? I have access to one if I decide not to spend the money on a new rifle.

Hey Crash, I have shot a 338lm in a Savage target action. Shoots good, but make sure you have a competent smith build it. This is a brand new rifle and build. The person who had it built, was sure that it would be a safe build.

Funny I came across this post - I've been poking & posting around for 260 info lately...

PA - nice rig, what's the weight? Is that the Savage stock or aftermarket?

liltank - where did you find a howa rifle chambered in the swede? Sounds tempting...

Gary - what's your barrel length, twist and velocity?

Like Alfred, I'm looking at the 24" (possibly shorter) and 1:8 but I'm suprised to hear about the long wait time.

Have any of you guys tested the accuracy with fluted barrels? I'm thinking the fluting will lighten up the rifle a bit and cool better.

Here's my concept - start with a howa varminter supreme stainless/pepper laminate 243 or 308, then order a replacement premium bead blasted ss barrel in same/similar contour but fluted, finished to 20-24". Once the barrel arrives, have a local smith true the action, rebarrel, pillar & glass bed the action, install a decelerator pad and a timney trigger. Depending on the balance and overall weight, maybe lighten the stock by removing a bit of wood from under the butt pad.

Hopefully I can keep it under 10Lbs, scoped. I'm liking this idea of a compact & accurate varmint-tactical rig.

I already have 243 components so this would keep me shooting while waiting on the barrel, although limited to lighter bullets like the 87 Vmax.

Thoughts?
