Hey guys, I just bought a Savage 112bvss in 6.5x284. I'll be getting it in about a week. My question is concerning the 1 piece base. Will I need a flat or round top base. I want to get the EGW 20mao base but need to make sure if it's flat or round.
Thanks for any help
Dustin

Is it a new model?

Round rear started about the same time as the Accutrigger. If your rifle is newer than a couple years old it will be a round rear.

As usual, Tank knows all things Savage.

I'm flattered, but I wouldn't say all things Savage. There is a lot to learn yet. Thanks for the vote of confidence though.

Thanks for the help. Is the 6.5x284 in this model new or older from Savage?

They don't make that model anymore. When I was looking for a Savage a couple years ago, I don't remember seeing it as an option. I bought my Low Pro in its first production year. Your model may have been available, but I wouldn't know for sure. One thing for sure, I'm sure you will be very satisfied with your purchase. If it hasn't been fired, give it a good barrel break in. If it has been fired, make sure you scrub the pooh out of it and go from there.

I was thinking it was the new target model in 6.5x284 norma, but I was wrong.

They have had it in the target model for as long as I have been looking at Savages. That is 3yrs now. I think it was a new caliber and model a year before I started looking or the same year I started looking.

I was looking at the wrong model. By the way, isn't the norma version of the 6.5x 284 more of a long action round? Does the target action from Savage handle LA rounds?

Yes and Yes. The original version of the 6.5x284 was longer than what is currently being used. I found the history on it somewhere. If you google it, there is info out there. One of the best sources is 6mmbr.com.

The target action will handle long action rounds. We are currently using a 338 Lapua on the target action. The only draw back to date is trying to eject a loaded round. An empty casing will easily eject without any issues. If anybody is considering a single shot rifle, the Savage target action is an awesome option in any caliber excluding the super magnums utilizing the 408 cases and larger.

Hey gear grinder! What took so long to get the gun? I ordered the same gun yesterday and picked it up today. Do you mind if I ask what you paid for it? Just curious what the going rate is? And was wondering what scope you got picked out for the new gun and what every one else would run on that type of gun? Thanks!
