Just getting set up for this caliber, 7mm SAUM. Custom chamber with bullet seated in the neck, not down in the case. Does anyone shoot this caliber with bullets seated long? Looking at using 162 amaxes and 180 bergers/jlks. Thanks, Brad

Rifle is a Stiller Tac 300 (long action) with Krieger 9 twist barrel 26". I can't remember the freebore of the reamer the smith is using, but it allows the heel of the bullet to be in the neck of the case.

just click on bullet weight and then go from there. He does not have 180s listed but he does have 175s. I think it would still be a safe starting point.

For 162 Amax I shoot 66.6gr H1000 and use BR2 primers with Nosler brass.
For 180 Berger Hunting VLDs I shoot 64.0gr H1000 and use BR2 primers with Nosler brass.
Start at 3 to 4 grains lower and work up.
You may have better luck with H4831 in the 26" barrel. I don't recall my H4831 load though.

Thanks, I will check out the link.

I have 8lb of H4831 and some H1000 on hand, so I will be able to give both of those powders a try.

Much appreciated.

After too much load work I found that my rifle loves the 162 and H1000. I use Rem brass and CCI BR2 primers with a 28" Brux barrel with 1-8.6" twist.

65.5 gr H1000
162 Amax
3.017 COAL
.005 into the lands

4" 5 shot group at 804 yds, 4 of those shots were 2.25"

I shoot a modified 7mm SAUM, (Shoulder angle changed) 180 Berger targets, Norma brass, CCI BR Primers and 60 grains of Viht N560.

Best group at 604 metres was 20mm on a very still day in September this year.
