first time loading for 243 ai and need help with some loads. i have an 28" barrel, 8 twist and want to try the Hornady 105 a-max to start. if possible i would like to use some of the powders i already have available to me.
they are Reloder22, Varget, IMR4350, IMR4831, IMR4064 and IMR4095.
if you can help me out it would be greatly appreciated!!!
thank you all in advance.

Of the powders you have you can start with 41grns Imr4350 or 42grns Imr4831 with the amax about .030" off the lands. If you want the best results you need to grab some H4350, H4831sc, H1000 or Retumbo. 4831sc gives me the best results all the way around, H4350 gives the lowest ES, and H1000 and Retumbo net the highest velocities with good accuracy but ES is over 20fps with both. Do not jump strait to this load but I get 3210 with a 105 berger and 46.5grns H4831sc kissing the lands in formed Lake City brass, 1.5grn less capacity than commercial brass, with weight sorted cases and CCI BR2 primers that load holds an ES of 7-9 fps and stays under 4" at 600 yards for five shots. FYI retumbo can push them over 3300 in a 28" barrel if your after speed.

i would llike to thank you guys for the input and when i realized i needed some different powders i went to Cabelas this morning and bought some. i have added the following powders to my list, maybe i can get some more input for the 105 a-max.

retumbo
h-4350
h-4831sc

once again, thanks for the help!:D

The H4350 will be a good start at about 41.5grns, seat the bullet touching the lands with 40grns if your forming cases. After that I found that amaxs work best .010"-.050" off the lands, when you max out with H4350 accuracy should be good to 800yrds with velocity around 3150-3170 and should give a single digit ES with fed210m or cci br2 primers in quality brass.

just thought i would give it another try and coax some loads out of the guys that shoot the 105-107 grainers in 243AI. any help would be welcomed! thanks in advance.
