N. Idaho whitetails and wolves.

I'm planning a trip to Northern Idaho to hunt Whitetails and I was wondering if anyone out there knows how the Whitetail population in holding up to the wolves? I'm looking at the Clearwater or St Joes areas. I read all the forums relating to the wolf in the western states and, let me tell you, it really gets my blood boiling!!! I'm having a hard time understanding how the government can relist the animal as "endangered". Didn't the Wolf meet all the preset requirements for de-listing? Has anyone in power seen whats happening to the wild game in the western states, or dont they give a s**t?!!!!!! I was searching Idaho Whitetail hunting recently and a column popped up on the Yellowstone Wolf. It was on a pro-wolf web-site and the comments on there really turned my stomach!!!! Do these, so called, environmentalists and anit-hunters, see whats happening there?!!!! How can they stand there and say that what a wolf does to game, and the senseless killing and waste that takes place, is better than hunting?!!!!!!!! Must be they're to busy hugging trees to notice! Guess they'll find out when a wolf comes up and takes a bite out of there as*es!!!!!!!!!!

I live in the St.Joe river valley and the whitetail harvest in our area was down 70% this past season. Between the the wolves and the hard winter in 2007-2008 whitetails, especially decent bucks, were hard to find. Contrary to what the Fish and Game will tell you there are wolves in every major creek drainage on the St.Joe river. We are stuck with them now!!!!

The same goes for my area here in northwest montana. The game dept. has already decided to cut antlerless whitetail tags to 25% of normal this year in my region. They claim winter kill, but we that spend our time in the mountains see right through that claim.

You have to remember that they brought the wolf in to replace the hunter for game management. We have had the right to hunt under the guys of managing the big game populations. If the big game is struggling to maintain it's #'s because of wolf predation, then there is no need for the hunter to harvest big game.

What the wolf does to the game is much better, in the eyes of the environmentalist, than what the hunter does, because they believe that the wolf is natural and the hunter is not. As if all things on earth are here for a purpose, except people. The fact that people are here is a mistake. The attitude at the very top of the environmental movement is that the optimum human population on earth is, zero.

Then comes the socialism aspect of the environmental movement. The environmental move was used by Hitler, this is not the first time. True socialism can't take place with out full control of the people. This will not happen as long as we are as well armed as we are. Getting rid of hunting is the first step to getting rid of the individuals right to own guns. If there is nothing to hunt then there is no reason to have the gun.

Sorry about the rant. Those of us that live out here have known about the wolf as a game management replacement of the hunter since they put them in Yellowstone. They more or less said so when this whole thing started. And yes it is becoming more evident each year how much impact the wolf is having.

But when the game #'s are to low to sustain the wolf numbers, who will manage them? I guess the enviros could give birth control a shot. Since the only natural predator to the wolves is us, and they certainly aren't going to let us do our god given job to sustain the natural order of the things.

I was talking to a few IDFG guys while working the other day, and it sounds bleak. The were talking about havests being down 30% for Mulies and 70% down for white tail. It seems that you cant get off the road far enough to find good hunting anymore. I will continue to try and find out what I can. They are not doing a lot of ground work due to the weather, but it should pick back up in the spring. Between wolves and weather, I think the best hunting will be within the City of Coeur d' Alene!!!
