My Super Bad Experience with GUNWERKS So Far

Yes I have bought some stuff from Gunwerks over the years. And they had been good about selling me everything I had needed. As in G7 scopes, Talley ring, muzzlebreake, 7 LRM Brass and dies. All was sold through the Gunwerks store. I have even owned 4 Gunwerks rifles. This is the 1st time I have been treated badly by Gunwerks, or I guess treated like it was not an urgent issue for them even though it was to me.

This is why I am asking for help and some helpful advice or a contact with someone that can help me with this situation.

Ya. That MPI stock issue was horrible. I guess it does look repetitive. Last year then this year. The thing I have learned about these two situations. Don't stake new builds on new products or new owners and having a deadline that is soon.

Would love some helpful advice.

Let me ask this to a few of you.

What if you bought a full custom action? And you found out it had been manufactured incorrectly and the manufacturer knew about just after you bought it, and they never got ahold of you. They waited for you to discover it after the rifle was built. And you then contact them. What if this was you? Would be asking for help? Would you be mad about them not taking your problem seriously?

Don't feel too bad. Some Weatherby supporter members on here actually called me a liar when I told about my Weatherby Accumark problems, and how Weatherby treated me. That was 4 years ago. And it was only recently that another member on here had nearly the same situation and was treated the same way by Weatherby with his Accumark, and IMO that was all the proof I needed to verify my own situation years before, and to most members on here (that were around when mine had a problem), that should have also corroborated my story, that it wasn't just a fluke.

You'll always get dissenters on the internet. And I'm not taking a side, which is why my posts about the situation fall both directions. But if your first post is how things went, see my first post in this thread, and that's what I would do.

They manufactured the actions and didn't know until I built that 6.5saum. His was the first one built on that action run with the problem. He sent in his bolt and they corrected the issue and sent him a new bolt free of charge with the exact same bolt face to lug diemensions and headspace was exactly like I set it .002"+go gauge.

I'm sorry yours didn't get fixed and your bolt got sent to the wrong address. That has nothing to do with the great and cheap costwise actions that gunwerks is bringing to the table. Just because yours turned into a **** show and you've posted it publicly to show how ****ed you. I personally have never spoke with anyone named Travis ever I don't ever text with company's either. Personal emails or phone calls get things resolved the right way.

Sorry about your hunt but that has nothing to do with the action malfunction. You should have bought another rifle or had one built. For the money you spent going to South Africa the cost of a rifle doesn't matter much. If this one thing hindered your deal well that's on you and your way of thought.

I won't say anymore other than the gunwerks GRB actions are a hell of deal for the quality and finish you get for the price. They are cheaper and better quality then a trued Remington and save me lots of time when building rifles.

That's some good food for thought. I appreciate the insight on this. I believe his last name is Atkins. Time just got away from me these last 4 months. A few guys know that I ended up in emergency surgery and spent some time in the hospital with a pretty nasty infection in my abdomen in July. Then work and family along with life. I guess my expections of heading to Africa with no hiccups was not realistic. I guess Gunwerks isn't the total problem with me not going to Africa. I guess it was just the final straw and I through in the towel.

I really appreciate the great insight and help from you all.:)

You guys should be charging by the hr for this good therapy

I feel like Gunwerks should have made it right long before now. You bought what you thought was a quality action from a quality manufacturer, the fact it doesn't work right is not your fault. I also would not have wanted to borrow a rifle to go on a hunt like that. The guys that say "borrow a rifle or go buy a factory rifle" must not know what it takes to get it done at long range. I'm not say you can't get it done with a factory rifle either, it just takes time to develop a load you trust and to figure out your drops. So give the guy a break it's Gunwerks that is at fault.

From my standpoint, they have to make it right. And I would be calling calling calling... emailing emailing emailing!!!

They are definitely liable to get your action functioning correctly, and liable for any extra gunsmith work that is required to get your gun back to where it should have been.

If you haven't been calling multiple times every day, and sending multiple emails every day, the your not causing enough trouble. Put a fire under them and they will make **** sure to line you out, because this thread right here is AWFUL for them.

Anyone is capable of creating a PR nightmare for a company like that because of forums like this one. I'm not saying it's always necessary, but that would have been the first thing I did if I was mistreated. Say I'm on forums A B and C and I feel like I have been mistreated. If you don't make it right I can guarantee if anyone is on the fence about one of your guns or actions and reads post I would create, they would not be buying from you.

Good luck

I looked at several actions before I had my last rifle built.
I didn't really care for GW's stuff? Over priced IMO! Who do you think pays for TV shows and advertising praising their stuff? You Do!
I bought a Lone Peak Fusion and couldn't be happier and I didn't pay for the GW crew
to go on some exotic hunt!
Any time you contact them about your issue DO NOT use the phone! Send emails
or letters. KEEP hard copies of everything!! VERY IMPORTANT!!
This puts a STOP to the old "I didn't say that" crap. You spent a lot of money and have certain rights. Hold their feet to the fire until you get what you paid for!
As for the trip? I would forget that money..If you really wanted to go..You could have made some arraignment and went..That loss is on you!

ya. I'm thinking I'm just eating the cash lost. It's best to just count on that being in the past. As in last week:rolleyes:. I guess the part that really burns me is they appear to just not care. It's not a high profit item and now they are loosing a couple of hundred dollars to make the rifle work. I guess since it's not a complete Clymer package and I didn't take a shooting class that I'm just a small profit nuisance. That they will just let me fix the issue on my own dime and go away.:(

As far as I know, all rifles require "time to develop a load you trust and to figure out your drops," not just factory rifles or borrowed rifles. Had everything gone better and the OP received the fixed bolt in time, there still would have been the need to do load development and confirm drops at range, so if time was a concern, it would have been a concern regardless of which rifle was going to be used.

Though both are on my bucket list, I've never booked a big expensive hunt or had a full custom rifle built, but if I did either they'd probably be both at the same time. AND since so much money was riding on both, I'd probably have my backup rifle ready to go (load development and all) well in advance of my primary being completed. That way if the build is delayed I'm still able to confidently hunt. I can't imagine a scenario where I voluntarily give up that much money in the form of deposits because I didn't have a backup plan. That said, I've never been in this scenario so maybe things would play out differently than I imagine.

From the outside looking in, though, it sounds like a little of the blame is shared by both parties here. It also seems that many valuable lessons can be learned by the OP and all who have read this thread.

I wonder what the ppl who live at ur old address thought when they received a gun bolt in the mail?
I hope it was a whiney liberal who looked up what it was, freaked out, and started crying (because we all know how mentally unstable liberals/Dems are).
