Mini-Muscle brake question

So, I've searched and didn't find the answer, so i figured i'd ask here. I'm building a 300 win with a medium palma barrel, .750 at the muzzle. What i want to do is keep the muzzle brake if i get one nice and sleek. I like the look of the muscle brake, but it says under 95 grains of powder, so i know it'd be close. Would it work for a 300 win and for those who have done it how does it work? thank you!

According to Jim's website you need the Original 3 Port Muscle Brake. The mini is for smaller rifles burning less the 65 grains. The original is slightly larger, but when they are properly tapered into the barrel they look great. I'm having one put on my .300 right now and I can't wait to get it back.

I guess what i'm asking is even though it's rated for lower, would it be semi-effective. I'm not needing 30% reduction, but a little wouldn't be too bad. I just like to keep it streamline...What about the 4 port slimmer line?

Why don't you contact him directly? Or Kevin Cram of MCR, he use lots of Jim's brakes on his builds.

Yeah i guess i'll give Kevin a call. He's always been super helpful, and i'll ask him about the work to be done while i'm at it. I guess i was just hoping there'd be someone that'd used the brake before and give some insight....thanks again

I use the Mini Muscle brake on all my WSM's and it works great but it might be much for a 300 win, the original would look good maybe the slabbed if you want to trim up the profile. I use the slabbed 4 port on all my RUM's, I use Brux med palmas and they look great but they are .820.

Thanks guys, I have put the mini on 300 wsms and they work great on that cartridge. we moved them up to a 338 win mag on a specific request from a customer and the recoil reduction was not as good as the original round CSR brake. Besides the lack of port to gas ratio it also had to contend with the larger thru hole of a 338 cal bullet. I would suspect it would work considerably better on a 300 win mag than the 338. I would also say that you would have at least a 30% reduction even with the compromise. Bullet weight will also affect the results, lighter bullets would be more conducive for reducing the felt recoil. If your going over 200 grains, that might be a bit too much to overcome.

Couple of options,

1.the original CSR brake in the .885" or .765" dia. would be very effective, both have been proven on 300wm and work very well. They have larger volume ports for removing gas.

2.The standard 3 port, the round versions of the slabbed models can be turned down in dia. to the slab height of the same slabbed models. so you could take the 1.250" round muscle brake and turn it down to 1". This will slightly change the way the brake acts in regard to eliminating the concussion effect to the shooter, you will feel a slight concussion as compared to no concussion when left at original dimensions.

I use the mini on 3 of my personal guns a 308, 260 ai, and a 7 rsaum.
On the 260 ai in a 14lb rifle I can watch my bullet trace from about 300 yards out drop into a 600 yard steel target. On the 7rsaum at 11lbs I can see the impact but can-not pick up the trace. this is prone on a bipod with my body lined up straight behind the gun.

Jim, thank you for the response! Would you be willing to try a mini on a 300 with a 190 berger? I like the looks better for the mini than i do the larger, but if it won't work, i guess it won't work! I'll surely have to make a choice eventually.

Nimrod, I think the mini is worth a try, I think with a top port added it will be ok with that cartridge.
