Hey guys, as you know Kirby is building me a 338 Allen Mag. I am trying to build this project on the McMillan A-5 stock, however, it looks like the Lawton M8000 Action may not be able to fit in this stock. So, I've decided to go with the McMillan BIG MAC 50. I should have went with this stock in the first place, it will allow me to go with a larger barrel diameter too. I am wanting to go with a barrel diameter of 1.500 straight taper. This will also make the rifle a bit heavier, I am thinking 35 pounds. Has anybody ever used this stock, and if so, how did you like it.

Kirby, if you reading this post, I e-mailed you about the changes to the project, let me know what you think.

Not sure if you have ordered the stock yet, but there is a used one for sale on eBay right now. It has been inlet for McMillan's 50 BMG action, so everything would depend on how the Lawton M8000 compares dimensionally to it. But with two days to go, the price is still under $200.

I make a modified A-5L, which is larger in the action area and 6" longer in the forearm than a standard A-5.

I designed it for the larger custom actions and larger, longer barrels.

Just a thought since you wanted the A-5.

You should consider having it modified to the SOE configuration. The TAC50 is a nice stock, BUT way too short in the foreend. I do this mod to the 375 SOE based rifles and have modified 408 M310 cheytac stocks as well (A5 stocks).

Just a thought,,,

Oh, something else. The Lawton 8000 series action will fit into the A5 stock. The bottom pic is a M310 .408 cheytac in an A5 that i modified to the SOE forend.

TAC50 stock is far more stable though.

Joel, I've decided to stick with the BIG MAC. McMillan is making a Larger model A-5 for CHEY TAC, but will not make it for anyone else. McMillan would have to make the larger actions fit on the normal A-5, In my opinion the big actions would not look right on the normal A-5 stock. I was disappointed when I heard the news about the A-5. However, once Kirby mentioned the BIG MAC, I remebered McMillan made a larger type tactical stock for the 50 cal rifles. This made perfect scence to change to this stock. The only bad thing about the BIG MAC is, you can't get it with the Thumbwheel Cheek Piece and 3 Way Spacer System, I think? But the good thing about this stock is, it looks great, it can handle a larger diameter barrel, I will go with a 1.500 straight taper pending Kirby's approval, and it will save me some money. Anyhow, I am waiting to hear what Kirby thinks.

I am probably going to have you make one of your A-5 stocks for my 223, I will let you know when I am ready. I am hoping to hear from people who have used this stock, the BIG MAC, I would like to get some feed back on it's feel, performance, ect.

Triggerfifty, I am thinking if the BIG MAC is more stable, than that's the way to go.

Sugarbear, I found the stock on EBAY. Man!! that would be a great deal, however, it's been pillar bedded for the McMillan Action, so I don't know if it would work with the Lawton M8000. I would have to see what Kirby thinks, if he thinks it would work, then I will get it.

We designed the larger A-5 for McMillan to make for Chey Tac.

It is my pattern, and I offer it in laminate.

That is the modified A-5L stock that I was referring to in the previous post.

I just wanted to set the facts straight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Joel, WOW, I did not know that. What color does your stock come in, can you do one in Matte Black. I am wanting a Woodland Camo Pattern, however, if you make the stock in a Matte Black color, this could be the answer to my problems. Will your stock handle a barrel with a 1.500 strait taper barrel. If I go with your A-5 stock, I will probably go with the origanl barrel diameter Kirby and I decided on which was 1.350 tapered to 1.250. If I go with the BIG MAC stock than I am going with a larger 1.500 diameter, however, if your A-5 stock will handle that size of barrel than I may go that rout. I am waiting to hear from Kirby regarding these changes. The stock seems to be a real problem for this project, I really want to find a stock so I can get this project started. Can you show me some more of your A-5 stocks in different colors. Thanks Joel, and I am sorry I did not know about you designing the stock for McMillan. I guess they, McMillan, told Kirby they could only make that stock for Chey Tac.

Send me an e-mail and I'll gladly send you all the different colors I have. I have a Black on Black which can be finished in matte clear. My stock will handle your 1.500" bbl and can go up to 1.650". It will easily accomodate a 1.350" bbl.

McMillan may have some sort of contractual obligation with Chey Tac, I don't know. What I do know, is that stock was developed in our shop for the Chey Tac bottom metal and McMillan.

It would be just a routine stock to make in either ADL, BDL, or single shot.

I'm not trying to push my stock, I replied to your original post just trying to offer you something that you originally wanted, but did'nt think was possible for you to get.

I will send you an e-mail right now, this sounds like it could be the ticket.

Joel, I got your e-mail, WOW!!!! your stocks look awesome. I sent you another e-mail with questions. I am very impressed. I think this might take care of the stock problem!! One of the questions was I noticed one of the stock had a forend like a shehane Tracker or Tooley MBR. It looked like it has a 3" forend?
