I've got a Rem M700 and the magazine box has one screw fastening the box to the base (bottom) of the receiver behind the magazine opening in the receiver. This is the first time I've seen this arrangement. I'm not a gunsmith though.
This is a fairly current production M700 as it came equipped with the J-Lock trigger (which has since been replaced with an aftermarket firing pin/ spring/ shroud).
Is this magazine box with the attaching screw setup as good as any? Or might it be better to remove the screw, grind the screw hole/flange off the back end of the magazine box and just let the magazine box float freely within the stock?
Recommendations one way or the other, welcomed.
