Need help on rings-- the VX5HD has a short mounting surface forward of the turrets. That tube is just so short. I do want to run a 2 piece mounting system.

I'm looking at Talley lightweight lows but they offer an 'extended' version that brings the front ring/mount back slightly. Can anyone confirm which will work for that scope?

I think the Leupold Dual Dovetail might be the only other option before a rail/rings.

Hmm, I think you'd be better off with the extended, but it'd fit with the regular still. I have a VX5HD on my rem 700 (pic below) that barely fit (Talley med). I compared these to my m70 Talley mounts and on the m70 it's actually a 1/8" or so further aft. So I think the regular would work, but the extended would give you more room.

With that said I couldn't get my 5HD to fit with lows because the bolt would not clear the ocular housing on the Rem 700. I have a 6HD on my m70 and there is more clearance with the bolt, but you may be cutting it close with lows.

Awesome info! Thanks for including a picture-- which height are you running on your Model 70? Is it long action? And which OBJ lens VX6HD do you have?

Thanks!

Eh, objective does matter with this one.lol But these are medium talleys. The tube is 30mm so that should give you an idea. And yes, long action. There is more room with this ocular housing than on my 700. Guess the bolt shape makes the difference because they're both 90 deg throws.

35 Whelen. I've only put 12 rounds down her. Need to work up the courage to keep shooting it. 250grns hurt when shooting at paper with nothing but your knee as a rest.lol
