Does anyone have any experience with this rifle? Wanting to know because I just bought one and it will be sent to my FFL dealer. I was wondering what the rifle weighs. Renington doesn't make the rifle anymore and can't find any literature on it.

Thanks

Hi 260.
Remington never made the VLS in 300 RUM, are you getting it confused with the LSS.
This rifle has a stainless 26" barrel with a 10 twist, stainless action with 3 round capacity sat in a nice grey laminated stock and an all up weight of 7 1/2 lb.

The description says VLS. I spoke with a lady on the phone and asked if it had a heavy barrel and she said yes. Will be calling to confirm this morning. Was there a Sendero made a few years ago with a laminated stock? if it is a skinny barrel it will be getting a 28" Palma contour with a brake.

Phoned the owner of a very large gunstore (moves a few hundred guns a week) and spoke to the owner this morning, and he assured me it was a VLS and did have a heavy barrel.
This rifle will be getting a brake, bedding job and the trigger worked over before I fire it. Will keep you updated on preformance.

Good Luck with your new rifle . But can you tell me about the 300 RUM ROUND ? I have been locking for a
remington 700 VLS in 7mm-08 They made them from 1998 to 2001. They are about as hard to find an HEN TEETH.

Congrats on a new rifle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
That VLS might be in the 9.5lb range if its a long action. The standard short action is 9 and 3/8lbs.
Stranger things have happened. I saw a VLS in 222Rem once at a gunshow in Harrisburg. Hesitated to buy it and when I went back to the booth it was gone. Always thought they only came in 204ruger, 223, 22-250, 243, 6mm and 308Win. Strange that they made it into a long action for the 300RUM. Maybe Remmy makes short runs of different calibers that aren't listed in their catalogues to see how they sell. If it is a 300RUM, you should have a great looking rifle that shoots well too. And if it isn't a 300RUM, you'll still have a great looking rifle that shoots. I have one in 308win.
Keep us posted on how you make out.

It is a 300 RUM or I wouldn't have bought it. Hope it ends up being 12-13 lbs total weight. With a brake it should be quite shootable. I plan to shoot the barrel out of this one and put a 28" on it. Keeping it light enough to hunt with.

260,
I dont doubt what you have been told, but i will re-iterate Remington never made a VLS in 300 RUM.
I can only think you might have a hybrid of parts, not unlike my buddies Left hand stainless fluted 25-06 Sendero with blue action, an excellent shooter put together by his dealer from the action off a new BDL and the barrel and stock from a new Sendero, which gave up its action for a custom. An early blued sendero barrelled action, bedded into a modified VLS stock is a distinct possibility and would make great rifle.
Either way it sounds like it will be a nice rig, some pics would appreciated when you get it.

As someone mentioned above, Remington will do a small run of different rifles and sell them to particular stores to see how they sell. I don't doubt this is one of them. Should be a nice rifle, Let us know.

Picked up the rifle tonight. It is a blued action and varmit weight barrel (.820@ muzzle)and the brown laminated stock. Bathroom scales says 11 lbs. Basiclly a new gun, has 8 fired cases out of the reloads that came with the gun. By listening to the varying amounts of powder in the cases, the previous owner was working up loads and quit abruptly. Not even any scuff marks on follower and no brass on bolt face. Should be as new as a used gun gets.
