1-31-24- I gave up on this build for the time being....Remington crapped the bed again and I no longer trust their factory actions for builds. Read below for details, if you like. I am building a shorty brush gun and need a Rem 700 footprint short action. I am willing to consider anything that will work with anything that will accept a Remage style barrel/barrel nut assembly. I am open to buying complete rifles to harvest the action from as long as it's a 308 bolt face action and the price is right. This is a BUDGET BUILD, and I have all the components except the action. I'm a sucker for a high quality upgrade, so please don't propose a fancy custom action to fit the bill unless it is at a signficant discount. I don't care much about condition as I will likely have the whole rig ceracoted. Please send pics of what you have a d your asking price.

Have you considered a factory Remington 700 action? Fair amount of them used floating around that you can put a Remage style barrel on.

That is exactly what I was targeting, and thought I hit the jackpot. I found a brand new, 8m the box, never fired 6.5 CM 700 ADL for a great price. Bought it, shipped, and when I got.it home and was playing around with it, I discovered that it was one of those actions that has the issue woth bolt timing and essentially does t have any primary extraction, based on the bolt timing issue. I was smart enough to not buy an action woth an RR prefix, and it still.has the issue. Very disappointed and have put the project on hold while I figure if/how I want to.go forward and what I do with this *** rifle I own now. Hopefully Remington steps up and handles the issue. I have little faith that they will and don't really want to pay someone to retime it.

Thanks. I need to close the thread. I found a brand new rifle, in the box, to harvest.the action from and when I got it home, I found that the action had the bolt handle timing issue that the RR prefix actions had. It really took the wind out of my sails on this whole build as I may be stuck with a rifle without any primary extraction capabilities or a bill for approximately the value of the action to fix it. Remington really crapped the bed when they were owned by Serverus. Very disheartening...
Also, I asked the guy offering that action for sale if it had the issue (same serial number range as the one I bought) and he simply replied that he had not checked. Enough said!

For a reasonable fee, the folks at LRI will retime the bolt handle for you to restore primary extraction. Note, I have zero affiliation or financial relationship with them, other than I'm occasionally their customer and they take my money: LRI Rem700 Bolt Handle Timing Service

Thank you sir. I used the very service that you are suggesting from LRI. That's what gave me the initial education on it. And the difference is amazing. That will be the route I go if I am going to get stuck with this rifle otherwise. My conscience won't allow me to put it back into distribution for some unknowing person to inherit the issue.

Happy to share the knowledge. Some people much smarter than me pointed me towards LRI and they've been nothing but a wealth of knowledge and quality work.

Another update. I called Remington (Rem arms) about the issue with rifle. I was on hold for less than 3 minutes, they connected me with a very nice gent with a southern accent who actually knew firearms, and he gave me instructions on how to start the warranty process. I did so, and they had an RMA label on the way within an hour. The problem isn't solved yet, but it has been encouraging so far. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully Remington is getting it together.

Appreciate the update. I have an RR serial action that might be headed their way then.
