I have a '37 Mauser that I rebarreled with a brownells barrel last season. Its a 1:9 twist, but I only have 120gr Hornady GMX's on hand. Of all the powders in the manual, I only have H4350.

Heres my issue: I have read on other forums that 4831SC is a better performing powder. I have a lot of 4831SC as well. If someone has a recipe or a SOURCE of a recipe for a load using 4831SC and 120gr GMX's, I'd be very grateful. If you think that I should just try the 4350, let me know that too. This rifle will be for deer hunting out to 300-400 yards max. Thank you in advance.

H4350 and 120 too 125 gr bullets work well in the 6,5x55 your twist is a little slow usually 1-.7.5 . One of my old loads was the 125 gr partition with 47 grs of H4350 and the cci250 mag primer . Always start low especially in military actions and work up that's a fairly hot load . N560 Vithvouri is a good powder choice too . Insure 4831 will work . H4350 is hard too beat .

The Hornady manual says that max is 43.7gr of H4350. Did you see pressure signs at 47?

No but every rifle can be different remember most reloading manuals lean too the conservative side because of the small ring mausers , they are loaded too lower pressure than what the 6.5x55 can be loaded too in modern rifles . I would either go by data ,depending on how advanced of a reloader you are and know how too read pressure , be careful those numbers work for me and a few friends I know . Start low and work up always.
