Just looking to see what everyone is useing to get a good base start I am starting with 51 grains with the bullet being .01 off the lands. Did shoot a load of 51.5 and seemed a little tighter, But was just seeing what everyone is shooting.gun)

Berger vld 140 hunting
4831sc
Lapua brass

Thanks

You started where I ended up. I could eek out a little more velocity but my groups got a little bigger. I figured I could live with 1/4-1/2 MOA and a little less velocity. I was right at 2890 fps.

I have gotten good results using 53gr of H4831sc, Fed 210M primers, Lapua brass, 140 Bergers. My Cooper and Savage both like the bullet seated .075" off the lands. I get 2940FPS. Using 57.5 gr of Retumbo and Fed215's gives equivalent accuracy and 2980 FPS. Temperature stability with both powders is excellent.

Just last weekend I tried the 140gn A-Max ahead of 59gns of Retumbo, in Lapua brass, lit by CCI BR2's. In my heavy barreled Savage this load shot on hole at 100yds @ 3038fps. At 700yds it shot 3-3.5" groups. It was 90* and there was extreme mirage that day so I may be able squeeze a bit more accuracy out of it on a cooler day. JohnnyK.

Here is what I shot the other day. I think I can get them tighter. 100yds

You might try varying seating depth. My groups varied from .75-.25 MOA between .010" and .075" off the lands with the 140 VLD's. My .25MOA groups were very consistent at .075" off the lands in my Cooper.

The barrel was a little warmer with the .081 off.
