I have several rifles that have limb saver recoil pads on them, and a couple of them are starting to get sticky. They are actually starting to stick to the bottom of the gun safe. Is there anything I can do to stop them from deteriorating? Thank you

I don't think so. I had a buddy who recently had the same issue. He contacted Limb Saver and they told him to send it to them, which he did. They replaced with a new replacement pad at no cost.

Not that big of a deal for one of them, but one is a grinder fit that I had to have a gunsmith do for me. I hate to have to pay for him to regrind another pad. Probably not a big deal to do by myself, but it is on a nice rifle and I hate to scratch up the stock

Sounds as if any oils used in the manufacture are leaching out because of the heat in your safe. Is your safe in direct sunlight for even a few hours a day? Do you have a goldenrod in there, maybe supplying too much heat? I'd try putting an on-off timer between the AC power and the goldenrod to allow the air inside to cool, and maybe slow the leaching of the oils out of the pads.

I have had a couple limbsaver pads do the exact same thing. A giant PITA when they are glued to composite stocks. I'll never own another limbsaver pad. An they haven't been exposed to any heat extremes. Just 68-72* temps in the closet.

Had the problem years ago....looks like they are melting...gooey mess...
I know what i did....and what you probably did....
Wiped it with an oily rag of some sort to clean it....
Didn't happen due to heat...if that were the case all of mine would have melt off while riding around in the truck.....

Never had the problem again after a thorough cleaning with any "water based product"....

I had one i put on my daughters Winchester compact did the same thing. It ruined the bottom carpetbagging of my safe before I was aware

The safe is in the basement, no sunlight and coolest and driest spot in the house. Nice even temps year round. Heat and sunlight are not the factor. No chemicals or oils applied to pad to cause it to break down.

Mine was the grind to fit also that got sticky after time. I have to put a old wash cloth or something similar under it now

My safe is located inside the house under climate control ( it didn't get hot ) although that is exactly what it looks like . I will never own another one either

I had 2 rifles with limbsavers on them, one of the being a grind to fit and both became a sticky mess. I contacted Limbsaver and They explained to me that their rubber compound formulation was incorrect and the compound deteriorates over time. They sent me 2 new pads and they did not compensate me for having to have the grind to fit re-installed. I did not have an issue with either after that.
