Lightweight hunting optic

Wow, thank you all. Great posts here.

I decided to not pass up the VX-6HD deal. It's inexpensive and hits all the marks for me. I'd rather save some money and spend it on some other stuff I need.

What's the consensus on best-of-the-best rings around here. I can talk for hours about adjustable ELR scope mounts but I'm not up to speed on hunting rings.

I trust these guys stuff. They built my 300NM.

And, some gun porn for your help…

I prefer Seekins Precision which are machine matched pairs:
Hard to get but worth the wait.
I believe Vortex resells them under the name Precision Matched Rings but they want more $ for theirs.

I have two Meta's, they are awesome scopes. I have hunted and guided hard with these scopes…beat the "tar" out of them, fully submerged them…and I'll be damned if they didn't just keep on going…no change in impact…still tracked like a dream. That's why they won't be getting replaced, I know that they will come through for me when I need them to. Clarity isn't as good as their "polar" lineup, as I have a few of those, but is still really good.

On a side note I really like the ASV II-B LT turret you can get on them. Very user friendly and adjustable in a snap. All but one of my hunting rifles has that turret now from Schmidt. The only one that doesn't is my super long range gun that wears their 6-36 PMII.

Good luck and let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer, or pics you might need.

EGW rings have never let me down. Ever. And they seem to be the same as the nightforce rings. Perhaps they make them for nightforce.
I have never had a pair fair even on my lightweight magnums or my big long range rigs.

419 rings are really good for the price. Machined matched pairs …my scopes almost suction into place

Congrats on the scope man. I think you'll be happy at that price point. I just received mine in the mail. The scope is sold, nice functional caps, parallax adjustment feels great, magnification adjustment is smooth though slightly gritty at first (few turns back and forth fixed this), the turrets are what I would expect for the price. They aren't as audible or tactile as my NF's but it's a hunting scope so I didn't expect it to be. The only issue I have with it is not the scopes fault, but rather mine. I have an astigmatism, and on the brighter settings I do experience a flaring affect. That's not surprising, and I expected it. I think you'll be happy with your decision.

Rings…
Area419 has always put out great stuff. I like the ones in your link, but have zero experience with those particular ones.

I'd recommend for a hunting rifle…

- Nightforce X-Treme Duty Ultralite rings (aluminum with titanium crossbolts and jaws, giving you the performance of steel at half the weight.)

- Leupold Mark 4 Scope Rings (they come in steel or aluminum)

Both of those two have held up great on my rifles. Currently I'm running the NF rings on my 300 WM. They are strong, and light. I'd expect the Leopold mark 4's to do the same job just as well.

Let me know your impressions of that scope when you get it!

All the best,
JD
