I am looking to buy a leupold scope for long range hunting and shooting,400yrds to 1000yrds.I am looking at either a 6.5x20x50lr or a 4.5x14x50lr.Should I get target turrets or the mp1 turrets? I would also like suggestions on the reticle? I am just getting started,Thanks for the help.

Read my post concerning the CDS turrets and how many MOA. I think youll find it very informative. I recived some great feedback, and have contacted the custom shop twice. In a round about way it leads into Target turrets and M-1 turrets.

As far as reticle goes, I think its a personal preferance issue. I prefer the B&C to get me to 500ish, and prefer to dial for the longer ranges where accuracy is paramount. Ive looked at both the target turrets and the M-1's and like em both. I here the M-1's are a tic "tougher", and theyre within $10 bucks of the target turrets if ordered from the custom shop, plus you can get calibrated Target turrets or calibrated M-1 turrets if you choose, so the cds is out of the picture for me.
Hope this helped, even if it was only a little...... Good luck

Definately go with the M1 turret. I didn't care for my target turrets. Pain to pull the caps to dial, then replace. As far as reticles, the TMR is nice, if you like to work in mils.

Off topic, but, when is Leupy gonna get on board and give us an MOA reticle?

+1....M1 turrets and TMR reticle....

+1....If Leupold would produce a reticle similar to the NF's NPR1, I would send my scopes to the custom shop and have them retrofitted.

I have leupolds on both of my LR rigs, a Mark 4 6.5-20X50 with the TMR reticle, and a VX3 4.5-14X50 with standard reticle. The mark 4 comes with the m1 turrets and that is what I would recommend over the target turrets. The tmr reticle is leupolds best reticle until they decide to make a moa.

A friend of mentioned the TMR leaves the field of view pretty cluttered. He told me to go with the Mil Dot if you are looking to do hold over shooting. That is what I just ordered, 4.5x14x50....it will be here Wednesday , hope he was right.
