leica Geovid problem

I have a buddy that just bought a new pair of hd-b's and he can not get them to range past 400 yards, any one have an idea of what the problem could be. thanks for any help

Make sure you are holding them as steady as possible, if that fails try changing the battery.

I just received mine a couple weeks ago and I can hit WAY out there free hand. I've had them on a tripod mostly and cedar trees are easily point and shoot to over 2000 yards. I'd throw a battery in them and see what they do. If not there's a problem for sure.
