Looking for recommendations on a good clear scope for last light shots, not that I prefer them it's just when then deer move where we hunt. Prefer 2nd focal place, illuminated dot or crosshair(not entire reticle), a usable hunting reticle and under $2K. Thanks.

Best to check out the Rokslide Scope Evaluations -- especially their drop tests! I have quite a few Leupolds and have been a Leupold supporter for quite a few years now! However, after reading a number of the drop tests on that site, I'm transitioning over to Trijicon scopes and getting rid of my Leupolds! My latest is a Trijicon 3x9x40 Credo illuminated on my deer rifle. I've got a Trijicon 2.5x15x42 Credo illuminated coming for a Christmas present to replace a Leupold on a varmint rifle I have. If I could afford them I'd have Night Force scopes but I'm not rich! https://rokslide.com/forums/forums/rifle-scope-field-evaluations.133/

Steiner Predator 4, Tract Toric has some good options. Trijicon.

Nightforce shv 5-20x56 only the center is illuminated, can get one for less than$1400

These are examples of what I consider a clean reticle, even if some are FFP. I'm just not sure how well I'd see the trijicon or Steiner at dusk

This is going on a 30 nosler that made a VX-6 unable to hold zero. I'd love a firedot on it but I can't chance another failure.

The human eyes' maximum usable light is obtained using a 7mm exit pupil. Examples that meet that requirement (just light here, not clarity although related) are: 4x28mm objective, 6x42mm, 7x49mm, 8x56mm, 9x63mm etc. Scopes magnification multiplied by seven equals exit pupil size. A scopes glass quality coupled with the users eyes peculiarities provides the definition what usable light reveals. Example: a high dollar top tier 6x32mm scope delivers less of everything than an economy scope of 6x42 under poor light; there's also other factors that figure here too, but...

My S&B 2.5-10x56 is like turning lights on the last 20 minutes of light and the first 20 minutes, but it won't meet your other requirements. 25 yrs ago, European buddy said they love the 8x56 S&B

The Predator 4 only the center cross hair is illuminated. And the knob is a little finicky. When you try to scroll thru for different brightness. But the glass is superb. And eye relief is really good. And the weight is actually not bad, if your looking for a light alternative. I really like the throw lever. It's smooth and fast. Even after all that. I think I would look at the Tract Torics if I was you. I like my Tract better to be honest. To my eye I think the glass is a tad better. lol
