Laser Rangefinder in the MIRROR...

So, I'm sitting in the BUS, using my new NIKON Laser800 in the mirror and it's reading things --- backwards.
WHAT IF...? I used it in a CONVEX mirror?
I tried it in my car and it didn't read...am I doing something wrong or does it just not work in a convex mirror?
