When hunting and considering shots at 600-800 yards, how necessary is a Kestrel-type unit?

That was my feeling as well...

Would a 2700 suffice or is it worth the coinage to bump up to a 5700?

When my family bought me the 5700 for Christmas a few years ago, I had told them before they purchased it to just get a basic unit, they annied up and bought the 5700, in retrospect, I am so glad they did.

it's a necessity to have something like a kestrel to make that shot. There's a lot that goes into making that distance of a shot. There is spin drift, gravitational pull from the Earth. I would suggest also spend money on a class teaching you how to long range shoot. It is worth the money to invest in yourself.

I would also practice cold bore shooting at that distance. Sometimes a rifle will shoot low or high on the first shot. It would be good to know that before taking the shot.

The biggest benefit is having corrections for the known atmospheric variables. Wind speed and direction key too.
