Kansas Unit 3

Hello,
I drew a tag for Kansas unit 3 (rifle) this year and was suppose to have private land to hunt on and that fell through. Has anyone hunted public land in that unit, and what am I to expect from it? Any input would be appreciated.

I live on theiric west edge of Unit 3 - hunted it since first deer season in 1972. Public tough for a decent buck. Doe best bet.
