Just returned from a praire dog hunt in South Dakota

We had a great time 3 days of shooting rats in the dakotas. I have no idea of how many were shot but we have confirmed kills from right in front of the truck to 2218 yds. Yes thats 2218 YARDS we confirmed it with a gps. We also killed a 5 gallon bucket at 2992 yds that was confirmed with a gps. We didn't get no kills at 3k but we did find one of my 210 bergers laying just off of the mound. This was the first chance I got to stretch out my new gun and I was extremely happy.

Sounds like a fantastic 3 days that is some awsome longrange shooting,dont know much about shooting pd's as there aint any over here but there not the bigest target to shoot so great results for you

I haven't done anything with the pics yet. When we made our way over to the 3k and were looking around we found where the first shot had landed and also found one of the 210 bergers laying about 20" from where it hit, must not have much left. The book says it has about 350 ft/lbs left.
The gun that has the 2200 confirmed is a 45lb bench gun in 300 wsm and mine is a 50+lb bench in 300 wtby imp. He shoots 190 bergers with a copy of harbor engineering mount that he designed and had built. Mine has a Ivey Designs mount that I read about here in this website (thanks guys). Both guns have Nightforce 12-42 br on them.
My wife to be killed at least 2 @ 1056yds with mine and his daughter killed one for sure @1056yds with his. These guns are fun to shoot. Big calibers and no recoil you can't beat it and to be able to shoot those distances and hit what your shooting at is great. Any questions please ask.

i can confirm the 2218yrd shot and the dead bucket at 3k. i was very impressed with the accuracy that both guns shot. great job jg.

i just recently joined the site. i am jghoghunter's shooting partner. i have the 300 wsm and made the 2217 yard shot. last year shot one at 1733, found guts but nu p-dog . like jg said shooting big guns (30s), with no recoil is a lot of fun. we shoot the groundhog matches here in pa.when we can,but it's not like the real thing. jg will soon post an in depth description of the trip, the guns (with pics), the shots, the kills, the dead bucket, the funny crap, and all the ball breaking that goes along with it. look for it soon. if someone would explain how to post pics, i'll show what i got. any question be nice and ask.

thanks joel. that's my 12yr old daughter. she shot the 1056yarder. i was just as happy about her kill as she was. she shot her first ground hog when she was 8yr old. she and jg's future wife made their 1000yrd shots at the same spot. i had to build the new scope mount system to get anything past 1850yrds. not enough moa in the scope alone.

Yes that is an unusual PD gun. A nice thing about PD shooting is, anything goes. I've been stepping up my reloading to return to SD this June hopefully. I plan to use the standard 223,204, & 22-250.
