I'd like honest numbers to compare short vs long barrels.

I'm sure this will chap some people but let's see apple to apples

Let's stay with .308 for consistency

16"
18"
20"
22"
24"
26"
28"
30"

300bo
308w
30-06
300wm
300wsm
Others?

I know it's gonna be hard to sort through all the mush but it might get interesting before it goes south.

If possible it would be great to see same ammo/load through different length barrels

This would be good for guys that have cut down their barrels in the past .

I can start-- but I've never cut down a barrel so I don't have any direct comparisons

24" - 300wsm
178ahh- 3130fps
180 bondstrike factory- 2950
215 hybrid- 2820

21" 30-06
125 sst lite factory- 2700fps
150ttsx- 2875
166hh- 2880
178ahh- 2956
178 eldx- 2840

16"- 308w
125nbt- 2860fps
130 tsx- 2850
130 mk319- 2700
150gmx- 2600
150sst- 2680
168 mkz- 2550
168 mkz-t - 2530
178 eldx- 2485

8.5" - 300bo
124 s&b factory - 1985fps
110 tac-tx - 2145

Seems to me that the only way to make this test viable is to shoot the same ammunition through different length barrels.
I agree, but that's not a possibility for me....actually the best way would be to shoot the same ammo through the same barrels and chop them down an inch at a time to compare -- but that's probably not going to happen either

I was wanting to see same weight bullets compared I'm different length barrels and different cartridges- so in the end you would have same weight bullets-- same length barrels-- yet compare cartridge speeds.

It's probably a pipe dream but hey-- why not try?

It's not too hard to find same weight bullets in different length barrels for same cartridges ( like posted above)-- but add the "different cartridges" part and it becomes a challenge

For example--You think anyone would have a 178gr bullet in 300bo, 308w, 300wm, 300wsm, 300rum, etc all in the same length barrels of 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24"? --- probably not

All chronoed @65* and 15ish' asl

16" 243 Ruger American
87 Hornady SST Lite 2400 fps
80 Sig Elite Copper 3050 fps

22" 7mm-08 Remington 700 Mountain Rifle
120 Hornady SST Lite 2600 fps
140 Winchester Deer Season xp 2700 fps

16" 308w 1-10 Model Seven
165 Sig Elite Hunter 2700 fps
125 Hornady SST Lite 2675 fps

18" 308w 1-11.25 Remington 700 5R milspec
150 federal blue box 2575 fps
150 Hornady SST 2560 fps
165 Sig Elite Hunter 2650 fps

24" 300wsm 1-10 Stiller with Proof cf
150 Federal Fusion 3325 fps
180 Winchester Power Point 3050 fps

I can give some 6.5mm velocity comparisons.

Both 6.5SSs.
26" 1:7.5" Proof vs 20" 1:7.5" Proof (both mine)
Exact same load in each rifle.
On average, 20-21fps per 1" difference except the 156. I think that might have to do with the slower powder choice a bit too.

130 TMK (FF load) = 118fps difference
130 TMK = 121fps difference
130 TGK = 121fps difference
130 OTM = 120fps difference
131 HH = 125fps difference
140 Hyb = 122fps difference
144 LR Hyb = 128fps difference
150 SMK = 124fps difference
156 Elite = 138fps difference

I have a new 26" 1:7.5" Bartelin CF barrel, that is a bit faster than the 26" Proof. Adds about 30fps to the 26" Proof with 4 loads I have tested.

What powder/charge are you using to get that velocity on the 168 in 30-06? Is it reasonable to expect similar results with a 168 TTSX?
I've never loaded Barnes but most load data for monos is slower so I would guess not. I used a stout load of RL22. I wouldn't try it.
