Interesting video from one of the experts.. Take a look!!!

Great interview. I've spoken with John a few times and not only is he one of the most knowledgeable guys in the industry, he just comes across as a really great guy. Hate to see him getting old but it beats the alternative.

I've been chastised for years about my "break-in process"... Which is scrub the hell out of the new barrel with a brush and a jag. Then run a wet patch of RemOil or Kroil down the bore and let it soak in. Run another wet patch of RemOil or Kroil about 30 mins later. Then go to the range and shoot 3, let it cool, shoot 3, let it cool, etc.... Then once your groups start settling in (which, most of mine are hand-lapped, so they don't require much, if any, break-in) and that usually takes my stainless barrels around 15 rounds. Factory stainless barrels that were factory chambered and have not been hand-lapped have taken me longer than that, around 45-50 rounds. Chromoly and hand-lapped was very similar to the stainless hand-lapped around 15-20 shots, and factory chromoly has been around the same as the factory stainless barrels at around 45-50 shots.

But I don't clean in between any of my shot strings like most people do. Now that I don't pay to go to the range, and I have a place to shoot, I might start taking my time and see if it helps...But it's hard to ask much more than a 1/4 MOA out of a rifle. :D

I do a general break in process with factory barrels.
I used to clean to bare metal after every range trip. I stopped, mainly because my Chrony showed the slower shot with clean bore, and I switched to hex boron bullet coatings.
What convinced me that I'm cleaning to much is a old Savage 7mag. I would work up a load and get awful groups. I did this for several load work ups and never did find a good load. So I ordered a 300 win mag barrel and was going to scrap the 7mag.
I figured, what the hell.... I'm going to try something before I switch.
I loaded 100 cases of a load that was giving me 1moa groups and just shot them. Around 50 or so rounds the load started tightening up, by the time I got to 80 rounds, this sporter barrel was putting three in one hole... I haven't touched it yet, and it's around 200 rounds with out cleaning. The load is a little slow but so accurate that I just kept the load for now..

Nice interview, I have two of his barrels on rifles now and they are quite accurate for hunting. He doesn't look that old to me, but I was a waiter at the last supper.

Great interview! Sure is nice to have some old timers with Soooo much knowledge. My Kriegers have always shot very well. In fact I have a saying, "when in doubt, but a Krieger". I did not miss the fact that he mentioned increased shoulder angle plus neck length means increased barrel life!!.......Rich
