I'm looking to build an Indoor Shooting Range, I live in South Ga, so anything underground on my place will require a steady pump to keep water out so I've ruled that out, next suggestion was to use shipping containers, I have a 40 ton crane and equipment to set and build it anyway I need, however I have never shot a magnum rifle through a container to determine the actual "noise pollution" obviously I would pad the first 20' container and air condition it for the comfort. Im going to put an oehler system in whatever I do. I have a range 800yds on another piece of property but trying to keep things quiet for my elderly neighbors that's closest to my shop. What's your experiences.

This is the shooting tunnel for Accurate Reloading. I suggest emailing Saeed for any information he might want to offer.

There is a LOT more to this than lining up containers and doing a little sound proofing. Target handling and laminar flow air movement along with just plain keeping it clean. Unburned powder can be a hazard.

I suggest doing some serious research and not just asking for opinions.

Enjoy the process!

Maybe a shooting shed would be an easier way. Just the opening to shoot out of.

Or you could just spend $1000 and a few months for a can…problem solved.

Probably depends quit a bit how many yards you're looking to shoot, 25, 50 or 100 yards quite a difference in costs. Single lane or multiple lanes. Target retrieval system? Could get some salvage culvert with right diameter and half bury it with earth mound for better on site looks and for sound.

Can be done if you have the cash.

100 yards underground right outside downtown Atlanta . All poured concrete. Target retrieval and all.
Did have some water intrusion at first but wasnt to bad to overcome. Not mine but shot in it a bunch and help get it built.

Sierra Bullets has an underground range extending to 300 yards.

There was a testing facility in Texas which used 3 tunnels underground for load development and testing.

There was a really nice in ground testing facility when Ransom Rest was originally built. It's now Ransom International.

How far is the question. A friend that is a gunsmith built underground at the edge of his shop where he worked on guns. He sound proofed it. It was mostly for test firing guns so he did not have to go outside but it works and could be mimicked above ground to reduce noise and avoiding water issues

Thanks

Buck
