There's always Ebay.

They also pop up on other unrelated sites. I got a pair of Dell Axim x5's on a 4X4-offroading forum. Kept one, sold one here to Midgetsniper. Got my money back.

They're around. If you're not in a hurry just keep your eye's out and the right deal will pop up.

Exbal recommends any one that will run Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2002-2003, or Windows Mobile Pocket PC 3-6.

Other than that, just pick one with the bells and whistles you want. Wifi, GPS, Blue Tooth, Camera, Telephone, lipstick holder, toilet paper dispenser.....etc.

I purchased a palm Z22 on craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums for $35.00 with all of the cables and charger. It runs Exbal very well and since it was so cheap if it gets wet it is not a huge expense to replace it. Exbal has two versions so you can use the Palm software or Windows version.
My recommendation is that even if you would like a fancy one that does GPS and all of the other stuff they are capable of, buy one dedicated to your shooting and then get the fancy one. Or get the TDS Nomad ($1600.00) and it will do it all.
Good luck.

I found a Dell Axim x30 for 75 bucks that should work well I think

please stay away, from windows pda. are peace of junk... the baterries life is half, and lots of crashes.

if you decide to get a pda just for hunting, then go under $50.00, because in case of broking, lost, damage the unit, you will not feel the pain.
in hunting situation, my self personally, i brocked 2 unit displayes, just laind down to take the shot on some rocks. the unit was on the chest pocket, and i just laid down, cracking the display.
this happend to me.

Well I don't know what I'm doing either, but I can tell you I'm currently looking for a Dell Axim X51V model PPC (which I think stands for personal pocket computer). It will run MS Windows (moble 5.0) and I am familiar with the windows operating system, so that's why I'm going with personal pocket computer rather than a cell phone.

I feel for you since I'm in the same situation. I've read all the posts here and I still haven't read a single one that provides much instruction for us types that have never used a PDA before, either PPC or Cell Phone.

phorwath

Man I here that I got no clue what Im doing. I guess all I was looking for is someone that knows more than me to say hay go on ebay get a nice used BRAND X for 50 bucks or so that will run exbal just fine for you but I have not got that responce yet and I dont have 1600 bucks to spend on one of those super wiz bang jobs some of the guys around here are toting.

If I do figure it out you will be the first guy I tell how I did it.

Stay with the Palm operating system.
Go to ebay or craigslist and buy a Palm Tungston or Zire any model. You should be able to find one for under 50 bucks.
I bought a Palm Zire Z22 for $35.00 and it works very well for exbal. Don't buy a fancy one. Get a cheap basic model and you won't have problems. If you get the fancy unit you have a bunch of programs to wade through.

Boys i just bought a dell Axim for 60 and it workswith exbal just fine , i put it in a water proof pelican case and have no probs at all.

JAWZ:)
