Warners,
I love a bargain on a good scope and after checking a few sites for your model's price, agree its a very good price for a Sightron II. Don't have one myself, but know some of my fellow shooters at shooting club like the Sightrons. If it wasn't a reliable scope with good glass, they wouldn't have it.
If the Sightron II isn't available....may want to check out the discontinued Nitrex TR1 and TR2 scopes at Natchez. Like your Sightron, these Nitrex are bargained priced and also have a rebate $50 or $100, depending on model.
Brand is Nitrex, but same as Weaver Grand Slams and Super Slams and have some really good glass in them. In magnification you want, TR1's final cost would be around $136 when shipping added and $50 rebate deducted. For a TR2 in your magnification range.....final cost would be around $166 after shipping added and $100 rebate deducted.
I recently purchased a TR2 in a higher range of power you want.....gents I shoot with regularly at range checked it out to confirm what I thought....heck of a scope for a heck of a price.
This is hard to believe, but recently a guy shooting next to me at our gun club had a new Zeiss Conquest 4.5-15X44 on a new Elk hunting rifle. Had him check out my Nitrex TR2, which is in same power range as his Zeiss and both have SF and target type turrets. Guy thought my Nitrex very comparable to the glass and features of his Zeiss. Only positive comments made about the Nitrex. Chuckle, should have seen guys face with I told him the Nitrex cost me $218.
Like I said, if the Sightron's not available for your price... take a look at
www.natchezss.com and use its search for Nitrex TR1, you'll find them.
Oh, forgot this recently discovered good buy on a Pentax Pioneer 4.5-14X42, which is same as the Burris Fullfield scope. This is original version, not a Pioneer II or a Fullfield II, made in Philippines and some claim a better scope than the IIs. Price is $135 + about $15 shipping. Chuckle, find it at
www.bestbuy.com use the search and enter Pentax pioneer to find it.
Might as well mention this scope too. Priced about $85 when shipping added. Yea, too low a price to be worth a darn. Its another discontinued scope at Natchez that retailed for about $230 once. Brand is Intensity....a line of scopes owned by ATK, which also owns Nitrex and Weaver. Intensity brand no longer exists, but scopes do in Weaver's 40/44 line. Weaver's equal retails for $263 and sells for around $180. Natchez has the 2.8-10x44 model still in stock and it should be the aspherical lens type, which has some darn good clear/bright optics and made in Philippines. Basically same scope as the older Simmons AETECS which were made in same Philippine plant. I have a higher power Intensity with aspherical lens. Gent I regularly shoot with at range showed up with a friends rifle to work up handloads for deer hunting with same Intensity as mine. Guy is a Leopold, Nikon only kinda scope buyer. He was at least 8 benches from me when I clearly heard him proclaim......"I just can't believe how clear this scope is." Like the Nitrex....Intensity warranty handled by Weaver.
